As the prop guy said, they needed one that didn't run on gas. Maybe they checked around and only found regular cars. They also needed to drive it onto the stage so a non-runner suitable for static display wouldn't work either.

Depending on the expected length of the run (and maybe a tour?) they may have wanted to have it around for a long time. Plus, a mostly empty, barely powered, prop could be much lighter and easier to handle back stage and to ship between venues.

. Just got around to seeing the video, I would add to the long list of this is wrong and that is wrong....but the actors seem to be having so much fun! Got a kick out the rigid suspension as they where driving it, reminded me of my TR6 when I first installed "upgraded" road springs! After the springs settled in ..it turned out to be the best handling British car I owned! By the way, those are "correct" door gaps...just the way the factory made them! Lol
