Life on Mars - lbc

I watched the show last night (from my DVR) and saw two LBC's.
First a really nice red Triumph, I believe sitting out front of the 125th. Got a couple different angle views, very pretty.

Next there was a yellow MGB, soft top up, sitting in the motel parking lot.

Problem was, it was a rubber bumper MGB.

This show supposedly takes place in 1973!!!

I called the wife over to see it, "Look honey - they got it wrong!!!"

"I called the wife over to see it, "Look honey - they got it wrong!!!""

Not to sound like the eternal cynic, but they usualy do.

I drive MY wife crazy with just such remarks. Was watching "Lenny" last week. Dustin Hoffman is driving a early B: No interior rear view mirror, but that's OK because the windshiels center rod was missing too, as were the wipers.

Yeah, yeah, I know they do this so you can see the actors, but I still notice it.

The best ones are the chase scenes & the car is in Park.

Picky, picky, picky...

"Bullitt"... That Mustang lost FIVE hubcaps in the chase sequence. I called it in the theatre.

"FIRE 'continuity'!!"

On what channel are you now finding LoM?

The British version of LoM was similarly messed up, and they had less excuse! Set in 1973, they had an Allegro panda car, which was not introguced until late the following year! In addition, A Triumph Toledo, where it should have been a 1300.

There was a scene in, I think it was "Murder She Wrote" or some other blue-hair show that had an E-Jag careening down a hilly road. My friend Rick taped it & we went through it slowly. They used all three series of E-types as the "one" car.

Pretty funny, actually.

The British version of LoM

Steve , I didn't know there was a British version.
Was it the original or was the US version the original and the British version a copy ?

Most people watching the show could not care less so long as it has the '70's "feel".

Pete.

If you guys get a chance, find "Sherman's Way" and watch it (it was shown at MG2008 last summer)....it "features" an MGB that undergoes a restoration..actually an entertaining film...even with the MG tranforming from RB to Chrome almost effortlessly, not to mention the re-install of the windscreen.

Response from another Steve -

Life On Mars is great. My wife loves it and so do I.

The English version is better. Check it out. Available on DVD.

Cheers.

I like the English version of a lot of shows, The IT Crowd most recently!
Junkyard Wars - that was fun!

Pete the American version is a copy of the British, I haven't seen the British version, but from what I have read it lasted two seasons and is now gone, except on re-runs, DVD set, etc. I like the American show, shows a gritty, politically incorrect version of the 70s that is still somehow nostalgic without being sweet. Great music soundtrack too.

Not too many LBC, but as stated they did have a couple on last weeks show, which may have been the highlight of the show, not my favorite episode.

glemon,
Thanks for that information.
We get the US version here and now I know the other exists I will have a hunt around for it.

Cheers , Pete.
