Inspection yesterday, first show today.

I got some great news yesterday that I thought I'd pass along:

She passed! Woohoo!

When I got her, the inspection sticker on the window was from 1997, and she was in really rough shape. After 3 years of weekend wrenching, she's finally street legal. She's not exactly pretty...rust, dents, flat paint, no carpet in the interior, but it's great to be able to take her out and not have to worry about the fuzz

She was inspected yesterday, and today I took her up to Peddler's Village in Lahaska PA for Brits at the Village. I actually stepped up my wrenching about a week ago when I found out the Midget was the featured marquee...it sounded like fate to me!

It's been a whirlwind week, and I'm sunburnt from all the driving today, but it was an absolutely amazing payoff for all the long nights, four letter words, and head-shaking from my fiancee (she rode along today to the show and had a great time as well).

Add another Midget to the "back on the road" tally!

Absolutely!

Photos of the MG

That's my entire restoration album...about 200 photos over 3 years. Obviously, the exterior photos in the beginning are the day I got the car in June of 2008, and the photos at the end were taken last summer. I've been focusing on the mechanics, but now with the bulk of that done I'll be driving to body shops for estimates this fall

Enjoy!

Dave,

With all you've been able to do with your Midget so far, bodywork ought to be a piece of cake. A MIG Welder and those outer sills will be a piece of cake compared to sopme of the things you've tackled. And if all else fails there is always the Rustoleum $39.95 paint job like Bugsy my '68 wears. Amazing what a can of Rustoleum, some Paint Thinner, and a Foam Roller can do.

Thanks for the pics - lots of work there. I love the "one at a timeness" of it all - same engine bay, then a new shiny part appears, then another and another - very fun!

Thanks for all the kind words...I'm going to be adding a few more to the album soon, as I realized there are no pics in there from the connection rod bearing/thrust bearing/oil pump swap I did a month and a half ago...

Jim - I'm honestly scared to death to attempt it. I know I could probably pull it off, but I don't know the first thing about body work in any form. Are there any good welding walk-through/resources out there on the web (Midget specific would be awesome)? It might be fun to take on some of the body work this winter. Maybe I could find a mentor in the area too..

JP - I had to use a "system" mindset when I was working on it, otherwise I would have probably gone crazy and given up. I just took it system by system, that way I could enjoy mini payoffs. Doing it that way also helped expose other problems that needed to be taken care of...
