Home Again!

Our Mark IV Sprite is home again after its 8 day sojourn. I went out and took measurements. The right rear now sits 3 inches higher than it did before. Of course, what I found was the car has assumed a very slight "bachelor lean", with the left side sitting 1/4" lower than the right. I think I can live with that. It was a pleasure driving it home, even in 90 degree heat.

The car has 5 new tires. The four tires are Uniroyal Tiger Paw 155/80R13s, the fifth tire (spare) is a house brand tire...good enough for emergencies.

In my panic on the Victoria British website to get the replacement parts, I apparently ordered a fair amount of duplicate hardware. If anyone is interested in what I have, PM me. I don't know VB's return/restocking policy, so I'm not sure if it's worth it to send the parts back, hang onto them, or perhaps swap them for someone who has something that I'm going to need. Also, the left side leaf spring is apparently in good shape, so I have an extra leaf spring.

I guess the best news is this whole misadventure ended up running me $400 less than I thought. I really thought there was no way I was getting away with this for less than 2k between the springs, tires and labor. It ended up closer to the $1600 range. It still trashed my budget, but not as badly as I had thought.

Good to hear you're back on the road.

Budget busting is what these little cars do best, but at least we're able to play at the less expensive side of the game.

David, that's great news! VB will take all of your extra parts back, as long as they weren't installed. You should drive it in to cars and coffee Sat morning.

I have a wedding to play out in Warrenton, so it's unlikely I'll make Sat. morning. The problem is the busiest part of car show season coincides with the busiest part of the weddings seasons. In the D.C. area, October is a bigger month for weddings than June.

We do some great things in the spring and early summer, too. How do you look on Oct 13th?
