Flamethrower Distributor Wiring

I am now in the process adding a new wiring harness (from British Wiring) to my '60 Sprite and have come to the distributor wiring. According to the instructions for the new distributor, I should attach the black/white wire from the distributor to the negative terminal of the coil. I have done this. The instructions then say to attach the black wire directly to the ignition switch wire. I am not sure what is meant by the ignition switch wire. The instructions then say to connect a 20 gauge copper stranded wire from the positive coil terminal to the positive battery or chassis. Is this necessary, given that the proper wire from the new wiring harness is already connected to the coil? Thoughts would be much appreciated.

`The red wire is 12V ignition switched.....which should be connected to the + side of the coil. Normally, the + side is connected at the fuse terminal for switched 12V. This all assumes that you or someone else has switched the car to a negative ground. Black/white is connected as you have done it.

Are you going to keep the car + Ground or - Ground. That will affect the way things get hooked up. One important precaution to prevent the smoke being let out of the new wiring harness is a inline fuse holder with perhaps a 5 Amp(someone else chime in here on the fuse Amperage Size) between the + Battery Terminal and the Lug on hte battery. That way if something is hooked up wrong, fuse blows instead of you letting the smoke out of hte wiring harness. Advice is to hook up wiring in a logical progression for subsytems i.e. lights, horn, turn signals, etc. and test along the way rather than the "big bang".

If you still have a Positive Ground,, AND the Flamethrower is wired the same as a Pertronix module. you do indeed have to run a wire from the positive terminal of the coil to the ground of the car. Won't run otherwise. Follow the instructions.
