First Question Distributor Swap

I am fed up with constantly messing with my worn out distributor (TR4). I have a full centrifugal VW (P/N 009) distributor which I am thinking about using. I have used these before and they make a VW come alive. I am not worried about the how , as I can easily do the machine work. I am wondering how the car will perform. Any thoughts?

George, I seem to recall this being a common mod back in the '70's, with either the 009 or 010.
Let me check with someone who knows for sure, and I'll get back to you on Monday.

The 009 reaches full advance (28-32 degrees) at 3000 rpm. Is that compatible with the TR4 engine?

George, that sounds just fine for the TR, but you may have to do some fiddling with the springs and weights to optimize the performance.

You should be fine with that amount of advance, unless the engine's compression has been upped by milling the head or using the thin shim steel head gasket. I'm using a purely centrifugal advance dizzy too (Mallory dual point).

Plus, it's easy to try and easy to put back if you don't like the results. Oh, and the parts for the original dizzy are pretty easy to come by to rebuild it, if you wish.
