Expansion tank thoughts

So, if you have been following any of the 50th trip accounts, you will know that my expansion tank leaked and was repaired on the way out and burst again on the way home. This is not the first repair and I really think it is dead. (i.e. I don't think it is worth trying to repair again.) For the same reason I don't want another used one. While new ones are readily available (and I will probably go with one) I am also wondering about one like this - at about 1/2 the price.

A good radiator shop can fix your old tank as good as new- what blew out on it?

That looks decent. Summit sells a similarly priced one ~here~

Or you could just go to a junkyard and probably pick up one you could adapt from any number of cars for under $20

the bottom seam split Bill, my concern is that it is just going to happen again.

My BE doesn't have one, is it worth putting one in? What's the advantage? Do radiators with expansion tanks have lower internal volume, is that why they have the expansion tank?

Your Bugeye wouldn't have one. In your car, it's basically part of your stock radaitor.

The expansion tank is used on the newer "wide" radiators such as on the 1500 cc rubber bumper cars.

I would take it to a radiator shop to have them check it out-
If they say the metal is too thin and that it will split again then replace it but if they know how to solder (they should!!) then it will be good as new (or probably better)
