Brittanicar Rack and Pinion Conversion

Has anyone here done this conversion? Just wondering what problems you experienced and what parts were retained or modified in the installation?

They responded to my email with a price. I would just like to know what needs modification and what is you loose. I would imagine you would loose the function of the trafficator and horn since they run through the center of the steering shaft.

Denis Welch sells a modern uprated replacement for the stock steering. If you buy the non-collapsible version you get to keep the trafficator setup. All other options require moving it to the dashboard.

Yeah, I would like to hear from someone who put in the bighealey box. I am going to try and see if I can adjust it some, but right now I've got about 3/4" play or more.

Have you jacked up the front of the car and observed whether the play is in the steering, the idler or the tie rod ball joints?

IMO the Jule rack and pinion conversion is not even in the same league. Here is a link to his setup, Marty includes everything you need , even a recored radiator. All of his brackets are welded on, nothing will move, it is bullet proof. Several vintage car owners have told me the install looks factory and they just assumed it was an original part. I have this setup in my car which is still maybe six months away from driving. I have driven Marty's BN6 with his rack and pinion, the car is nicely connected to the road.
