prices of brake calipers vary greatly (A1 CARDONE p/n 17-305 and 17-305 loaded with pads are $60.oo each VS RAYBESTOS RWC45320 & RWC45321 at $49.oo.....contrast these to Moss wanting $385.00....what is the reason for the price difference? Are MOSS/VICTORIA BRITISH selling a much superior product? /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/confused.gif

I have used both the A1 and the Raybestos calipers for a variety of Brit cars over the years with no problems whatsoever. Expensive never necessarily means better.
Is it possible the high dollar calipers are new, rather than rebuilt?

Thanks BUGEYE & KEOKE, that is just what I wanted to know..."sounds cheap" and "..I've used both...with no problems..." I'm getting the plastic out and ordering some tonight. Think I'll go with A1 CARDONE.

As a bit of added information, I also have had good luck using A1 Cardone rebuilt master cylinders, although the available selection seems to be getting smaller for our cars.

Do you realy need new calipers? Usually new pistons and seals is all you need. Blow the pistons with a bicycle pump and clean the calipers with a stiff toothbrush or brass brush. You'll save alot of money.

When I purchased my BJ8 a little over a year ago, the caliper pistons were seized, so my first project was to rebuild the calipers with new stainless steel pistons and seal kits. It seems to me the pistons were about $28 each and I needed four for the two calipers. And as I recall I had a difficult time getting the old pistons out and even installing the new seal kits wasn't real easy. At $45 to $60 a new caliper, go that way.

Scott, I am gonna rebuild my originals but I couldn't pass up these prices....of course if it turns out that the old saying "...you get what you pay for..." means I got snookered on the quality/performance I'll mention it in a post to caution others. On the other side of the coin, if satisfactory I'll mention that too. Thanks for the comments guys, you're helping me make informed decisions. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/england.gif

Hi RVman -

I came across similar deals on Sprite calipers while cruising Advances site - just for fun see if they list starters and generator/alternators for your car - They got em' for Spridgets and they're about half of what the Kahunas in Kansas and the Caporegimes in California charge - They may not be Lucas, but the price won't Puke us!

/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/blush.gifGood news/Bad news update on this thread : In my quest to buy AH 3000/BJ8 calipers I have uncovered several parts supply houses with very good prices in the $50-70 range(good news) however after I ordered they came back with the statement "...we are presently out of stock on this item..." /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/cryin.gif(bad news). I will re-post with my success/fix action on my search for inexpensive brakes. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/computer.gif

It has been four months since I started my Quest for BJ8 calipers, and I have some good news and some bad news. GOOD NEWS:With this forum, and members like John Morralee, I have my calipers. BAD NEWS:without this forum and members like John I wouldn't have my calipers. (well, not without a major investment in time and money to say the least)This forum is a godsend when you have to do the majority of your own work/part search. Thanks everybody.
