Before I put the heater in my 57...

is there part of the new wiring harness that goes behind the heater? There is a clip on the battery box behind the heater that looks like it has never been used.

On mine, the harness to the left side of the firewall was routed between the battery box and firewall. That's the bundle that goes to the dimmer switch and back out of a grommet in the left firewall. The wire clip on the back side of the battery box was also unused. The instrument bundle of the harness passes between the heater and the dash assembly. That is, to the right side of the heater. I don't have any wires between the heater and the battery box...although the temp Gage capillary goes under that area.

I'd send pics, but I'm not at my desktop right now...

There's a lot of misc welded on pieces on our TR3's that don't make sense.
I was told by an (unreliable) source that the clip on the battery box is for the dipper switch wires on a RHD TR.
You know the welded on bracket that helps hold the large rubber boot in place where the steering column passes thru the firewall? I've got one of those on the right side as well & my TR is post 60K with no brake/clutch blanking plate for RHD ! Go figure.
I agree with John on all the rest of the routing.

Frank, our RHD cars use the bendable lug down in the RH footwell - left side - just above the steering column hole, for the dipper switch loom.

The lug on the RH side of the battery box looks to have been for the main loom after it entered the cabin, but my loom strayed away after the rebuild.

That weird thin bracket on the firewall to hold down the steering column boot, was fitted on both sides. When the factory put through long runs of LHD cars, they deleted the RHD master cylinder cutout, probably to save a few pence per car.

Anyone got a picture of that bracket and how the steering column rubber boot fits in? I haven't put my column in yet and I don't see how that bracket comes into play.

A few things on TR's were primitive. As if design engineers found shortcomings on the pre-production cars and needed a quick fix. That strange extender bracket that pins the rear fenders in the upper back corner is another one.

Wow, thanks Frank, that's very helpful. Like others, I've been wondering what those strange strips of metal were for. I thought that they might be something a DPO had put there for some unknown reason.

One theory is that Mulliners used them in some way to facilitate assembly. We May never know.
