What can I bolt to the engine before I install it?

Nearly ready to drop the lump in the B/E. What can I have bolted on before installing it? Starter? Generator? Spin on oil filter? Header and carbs?. The bonnet is off and heater has yet to be installed so it is as open as it will ever be. Fuel lines and Brake lines are in and the dash is wired up. Your thoughts? Pics later.

I put on the ancillaries after the engine was installed in the car. Plenty of room especially if the bonnet is off. If you're running headers they can be tricky depending on the brand, stock stuff isn't a problem.

ISTR from back in the 60's, that the engine can be pulled and reinstalled with everything installed. You will only have to hook up the ground strap, wires, throttle and choke, exhaust pipe, plumbing, and the like. If I am mis-rembering all of this, someone will chime in to correct me.

I usually install the engine with everything hooked up, including the transmission.

Indeed. On on the engine, one on the car, don't recall if it matters which is which.

The right hand mount is on the engine and the left side one is mounted to the car. It worked for me this summer. Someone had posted this on the group a while back.

As said above- the mount by the steering column stays on the car, the mount opposite the steering column stays on the engine.

Thanks for the input guys! I like the idea of having as much as I can bolt to the block. I do not have the smallest hands to work down in the bowels of the engine compartment.

For years, I have been installing the BE engine, the way the factory did, with the transmission, distributor, intake manifold, exhaust manifold installed. In order to clear the radiator supports the engine has to be very high and tilted at about a 45 deg. angle..........big pain......BUT NO MORE. Take the distributor out (take the two bolts that hold it to the block), take the generator off, and take the intake manifolds off (the intake does not have to be removed from the choke and accel cables, just lay it over on the fender. Now the engine and trans can be installed through the radiator supports without even taking off the bonnet! How is that for a neat trick! Scott in CA

I am just glad I can have the Starter and ground chable bolted on and not have to bolt it on when it goes in.

It is in! What a pain. Mostly of my own doing. I forgot the motor mounts were handed and with the new paint always on my mind I was worried about destroying it. Well now I think it gets easy. Lets see how long it will be before we hit the road!
