94 XJS - Radio Codes

Does anyone know how to enter the radio code for a 1994 XJS. I have checked to see if the code is the correct code for the radio. I am reasonable sure that it is. However, the radio does not want to accept the code. I have entered the code a number of times with no successes. I have been told that if I leave the ignition on accessory for 24 hours that the radio may reset. I have also been tod to disconnect the battery so that all settings will be cleared. I have tried these. Does any one have any suggestions.

Thanks for the help.

To reset the radio, unplug the radio or battery for at least an hour. Then try the correct code and it will reset. If you do not have the correct code you can furnish a dealer your VIN and the ID of the radio which you can find on the case sticker and he can come up with the code. If that dfoesnt work, j;unk the radio and get an after market. I have had one case of a defect in the code reset.

I have tried unhooking the battery for 24 hours. I am sure the code is correct. The previous owner has never changed the code. The radio is locked tight. I have heard that the chip may be removed from the radio completely and no code will be required. I am not sure how this will affect the security system.

Sounds like your chip set is bad. I had a chip set replaced in a BMW radio and it worked great after the fix. The guy was making boom boxes and all kinds of auto sound devises in a rented "hole in the wall" place. He appeared missplaced but life deals some unexplainable situations. I went back to him a few years later with another car and he had moved, nowhere to be found. He was legitimate, would not work on the radio unless he saw it in the car. At the time, I did not even know how to remove it. The chip set did not get an EPROM number programmed on site, it comes from the mfg with a number programmed in it and according to the guy that repaired mine, the number can not be changed with out replacing the chip set. Chip "set" because there were two chips in the security system. One chip contained the number while the other would match the number you program in to see if there is a match. They guy only charged me $150 stating that the chip set cost near $100. This was in 1996.

Thanks for the info. I have a guy working on the same thing. Remove the old Eprom and replace it with another. Cost is $100 including the chip.

I can not find a person that will repair the security system around Atlanta any more. Can you share your contact?
I have a great working radio out of a 95 535i but the code was on the repair invoice and I can not find the invoice. It would be a nice up grade for my TR6 /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif it even has a weather station button.
Thanks in advance for your consideration.

Vettedog72,

You might call the guys at Bavarian Imports on Howell Mill here in Atlanta. PM me and I'll get you a phone number. I'm pretty sure they'll be able to hook you up with someone.
