From 1973 MG Midget in a box kit:

Does anyone know what these items are for? I'm guessing items 2 and 3 are for the dash attachment?

Also, does anyone have a photo of the horn bracket attachment to the front assembly?

Thanks in advance!

(I'm still working on getting a photo to upload, at least I can get the photo site........(I hope)

2 & 3 & likely 6 are to hold the bottom of the dash on.

I'm pretty sure 1 is a spacer that goes between the door hinges and the body

1... I would think, are captive plates that have been freed. But I do not know if they are for the top frame, door latches, boot hinges... or what.

#1 looks like the door screw holder plates, they could be for the top frame.
1/4 x 28 threaded holes would make them door hinge plates, 5/16 x 24 threaded holes would make the for the top frame.
#2 & 3 are bottom dash support brackets.
#4 is the trip odometer holder, it bolts to the bottom of the dash too near the speedometer.
#5 really looks like a Bugeye bonnet latch retainer ear.
#6 is a backer for the velcro on the top or on the cockpit trim where the top is velcroed to the body.

Thanks everyone!
If I had a brother, I'd want him to be like all of you!
I have sisters, but they didnt know what the trip odometer holder piece was.

Now then,
If the BE bonnet latch retainer is hard to find, or in demand, please pm me and I will be happy to send it to the first responder.

Cheers!

An update on the steel plates with three screw holes and a center 'guide' hole.

Both door hinge plates were intact and accounted for.
Both top frame to body captive plates were intact and accounted for.
I went through the whole car looking for any hint of a home for these. No luck.
What I know is these 5 things:

1. The three screw holes are about 5.5mm, or about 7/32 in diameter, with the threads not looking like a fine turn, or a very coarse turn, just somewhere in the middle.

2. My door hinge and top frame plates are in place.
3. The PO thought enough of them to wire wheel them.
4. I was able to find a left over screw from Victoria British marked 12-2356 that fit, from my spares box. However when I referenced this screw on their web site, no luck on the pages found, meaning it may be the same screw size, but probably a different length and hense a different number.
5. There are two of them, so I know there is a left and a right.

I've taken a closer photo of these two pieces, just in case it rings a bell for anyone.

Thanks again for any help!

OK........update to my update:
I read over everyones comments very carefully and went out to the garage to check again. The door hinge to body screws appeared to measure the same space apart as the holes in the two metal plates in my hand. So I unscrewed one of the bolts, and sure enough, it fit the threads in the metal piece.

This dilemma seems solved as to where these plates belonged. But, that left a big, "now what?" as to what are the screws tapping into?
So, I pulled out the PO's 100 picture photojournal of the shell rebuild. From what I can tell with the doors off, and the fenders off, it is impossible to get to those 'tapped plates' without cutting into the "A" post sheet metal. I went to my handy reference, (Late Sprite & Midget Moss UK catalog), and sure enough there is the 'tapped plate', item 50, page 110. Then back to Moss USA catalog, and the 'tapping plate assembly' is sold as well as the "A" post outer skin, then again back to the photojournal. There under the brightness of a helical flourescent 60 watt bulb, I found the answer. He cut out the lower half skins of the "A" posts to repair bottom rust on both the LH and RH sides. In doing so, he had to replace the bottom 3 screw hole tapping plate assembly probably purchasing from Moss as in the catalog it appears to have 'ears' for welding (?), thus leaving the original plates in the UFO parts box, and now several years later driving me batty.

Thank you all for all of your correct answers! I just had to do a bit of garage/catalog sleuthing with BCF direction, to put together the final answer to this perplexing question. :wall:
