TR2/3/3A timing sprocket alighment

I am putting together my TR3 engine, and got to the timing. Roger Williams' book suggests that the cam sprocket might need shimming. No mention of the crank sprocket, which in my case is 20 thou or so
"low". I am reluctant to remove it (I could not shift it when I took the engine apart). Manual says nothing at all about this... just put it together!
Is this a problem I should worry about and wrestle with? Will it wreck the sprockets and chain?
(the front cam bearing seems to fit perfectly so I have no idea why this should be out of kilter, but after 65 years...

Sounds like a misprint to me. There are no shims at the camshaft, the alignment shims go on the crank behind the sprocket.

Alignment is moderately important; the chain and sprockets will wear faster if the chain is forced to run at an angle.

I would hook up a "bearing splitter" type puller (with the two halves that bolt together) and add extensions as necessary to clear the end of the crank. I forget the size offhand, but the threads in the end of the crank are a standard size, so you can put a bolt in there for the forcing screw to bear against. Should slide right off. (I used a similar setup to pull a hub that had been mounted with high strength Loctite).

Double check the size, but this is the type of puller I'm talking about :

Thank you. Not a misprint, but a mis-read. Ouch!
Because I was fitting the camshaft, I attributed the shims to that, rather than the crankshaft, which is what the book actually says.
This misalignment might explain the near destruction of the previous setup (a previous owner).
I had to replace the front plate with a used one off another engine.
I see that Moss lists the shims so I shall take a rest and add them to my next order. Soon.
Thanks again.
