TR6 TR6 speedo and bushing grease ?

Going to work on the Tr a bit and wanted to know what grease you recommend for the polyurethane suspension bushings. Installed new bushings about 5 yrs ago and they are creaking badly now.

Also any ideas on what to look at/fix regarding a jumpy speedometer needle? already pulled and greased/oiled the cable, it is good, with gentle bends.

The speedo needle will jump from 0 to around 30 when just starting to roll and settles down the faster the car goes. While doing 60-70 mph it will oscilate 5mph while holding the throttle steady.

Thought I would try somthing before spending $200 on getting it rebuilt.

If the jumping is not caused by the cable then there is some binding inside... posiibly caused by a bit of corrosion or over-enthusiastic lubrication that has gotten to the drag cup.

Mine junped a bit for awhile, then it stopped... completely... froze up... snapped the cable. Well that at least made it real easy to find the problem. The shaft operating one of the odo's had corroded a bit. Taking it apart, dressing it with emery cloth and re-lubing made it fine again.

Regarding the squeay bushes. I just installed fresh poly bushes from BPNW. They are supposedly self-lubricating to avoid the squeaks. I couldn't help but coat them with a little teflon prelube from energy suspension. I can't attest to the longevity of this stuff but they don't squeak right now.

Hi,

A synthetic grease should be used on those urethane bushings, I think. Some speed shops sell a specific grease, but I don't know if it's anything special... just synthetice and relatively thick. I see some manufacturers are have begun adding zerks to their sway bar mounts.
