TR6 TR6 senior moment.....

Hello Folks,

I am assembling a TR6 engine. As returned from the machinist, most of the block plugs were removed. I have hit a snag or two, and I hope somebody can help jog my old brain cells. This is an early 69 engine. First, above the oil filter mounting area there is a large threaded hole (12 oclock on the filter opening) What goes there? If it is just a plug, anyone have any idea what size? I have a good supply of things like that, but nothing that fits... Moss shows nothing, and so does Rimmer Bros. The second thing is the customer supplied the external oil feed line. It seems WAY too long, so what an I missing on that? If I were to install it on the rear cam bearing "port", the braided line is about twice as long as it needs to be.

thanks,

jesse

I think that is for the oil pressure switch.... be right back, going into the garage to have a look at my engine.

Edit: OK, I just had a look at my engine. The hole you are referring to is NOT for the oil pressure switch. On my engine, the hole just above the oil filter (at 12 o'clock position) seems to have a plug in it. Looks like at sometime someone (or the factory) put a plug into the hole and pounded it down.

As for the external oil feed, I don't think they do much... just my opinion.

On my '73 the relief valve is at the 9 o'clock position just under the dizzy.

Just checked my '68 TR250 engine which is likely very, if not exactly, similar to your 69 TR6. 12 o'clock position, just above the oil filter housing is a plug.

Check TRF part number PU1404. Description: "Plug, oil gallery".

TRF has the plugs available, I think that one is PU1404 (but you have to buy 3 of them using PN PU1404/3).

I'll echo the above sentiments: Lose the oil feed line. As long as a decent quality oil is used and kept changed on schedule, the stock oiling system works quite well. And the external oil feed introduces way too much oil to the top of the head, where it causes problems like this:

Jesse- i know it is a customers car and He/She is always right.
So ...just make the suggestion to them.
If they really want it, who are we to say no?
