TR6 TR6 Intro

Good morning all triumph owners. I have recently joined this forum after coming across it using Google. There is a wealth of info here, I,ve spent hours browsing and only just begun.........
I bought a TR6 in 1995 and restored it soon after. I have done little to it since, so a general tidy up is required. The car was assembled in Adelaide in the Leyland factory in 1974 and is the Injected model. A bonus is the indicator lever is on the correct side of the steering column (for us Ozzies). Included is a pic of the car as it is currently, and a pic of the timber door rail I made from solid Beech to replace the standard vinyl one. I also replaced the 'cardboard' door panel with a more sturdy MDF one I made using the original as a template. I re-stapled the original vinyl to the new panel as it is in good condition.
A couple of questions: my glass winders are worn, has anyone tried electric winders successfully? Also has anyone tried electric door locking?

Welcome!
Here in the U.S. we never got any injected TR-6s (or the injected TR-5).
Interesting that your car was assembled in Australia...never knew that they were built there.
Nice work on your car....there are others here from Oz so maybe they will pipe in.
I can't offer any suggestions about power windows...perhaps someone else will chime in.

Welcome to the forum. I just had my regulators, channels and glasses (both) replaced with original parts and they work beautifully. I saw an article about electric windows once, but never anything for the door locks.

Good luck in your search and come back often. If you do find anything of interest, please post as we all learn from each others experiences.

I don't use the existing door locks. I figure it extends the life of the convertible top.

Don't you just twist/push/turn the door opening handle the opposite direction to activate the door lock? Don't try it, your door may never open again /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Check with Victoria British in Kansas, USA. i think they offer a power window kit. Or, if you can get a copy of Street Rodder you will find multiple sources of power window kits and electric door locks. Street rod enthusiasts like to "shave" or eliminate door handles and locks. If you can't get a copy of the magazine down under, send me a message. If it's no too expensive I'll send a copy.
G'day, No worries, Tie me kangaroo down mate

Good point! But, it doesn't always work...

I'd forgotten about having a convertible top slashed (many, many moons ago, and not on a Triumph). To add insult to injury, there was nothing of value inside the car to steal *and* the car was unlocked at the time. The slasher also released the parking brake and moved shift lever out of gear, either in error or deliberately, so the car rolled across a gently sloping parking lot. Perhaps they were trying to steal it, but got scared away. Thankfully, no other damage was done.
