For most of you, this is not a big deal or challenge, but for some who are mechanically and spatially disadvantaged, I thought you might appreciate a simple trick to get it into the car. Now I know that I have removed the exterior tunnel cover which makes it that much easier.
Here is the rod assembly showing it's proper orientation to the hand brake.

In this shot, I have pushed the Pawl into the handle and I am preparing to insert the rod assembly.
Once I have positioned the rod assembly into the handle and over the pawl, while holding the rod assembly in the handle, I used a small screw driver to move the pawl to it's down position, then moved the ratchet plate so that it engaged the pawl. I kept all this in place with a rubber band so parts would not fly all over the place.
I have installed the link compensator (should have done that earlier) and the nylon washers, I then slipped them into place, insuring the tab on the ratchet plate fit under the tab on the drive shaft tunnel.
Insert the bolt, tighten down, cut the rubber band, and it is done.
