I trying to figure out if the upper seal tucks under the tenon plate to the upper screw or is it trimmed above tenon plate with the tongue only going to to screw.
If the upper part is trimmed above tenon top is it cut to follow tenon profile,or cut straight?
thanks
Tom

I trimmed mine and followed the shape of the plate -- because that is how the old one was and I thought it looked good. BUT: I have no idea what is correct here and have seen variations on cars that appear to be careful restorations.

That's how I did mine. The original seal was also trimmed like that.

Keep this in mind (though I'm not sure what you do about it): My seal has shrunk over the (20) years, retreating about 1/8" on each end.

Perhaps make it as long as you can and still look right or at the very least let it relax for a few days after installing it since the install often involves stretching the seal to get it to slip thru the groove.

Like a haircut... You can alsways trim off more later, hard to put any back.

Come to think of it, my hair has receded quite a bit in those same 20 years.

Thanks Geo,the seal has been in the groove with excess hanging for several months,so it should be fine.I think I will leave the tounge just proud of the groove,so the tenon should help hold it .

Thanks
Tom

In 1990 as I neared the end of my 3-year restoration, I installed a new top seal that goes across the top of the windscreen. I did what I seem to remember as it came originally and which I dismantled in 1987.

I left the rubber a bit long on each end and about 3/8" is secured between the stanchion and the tenon plate. Then I trimmed off the excess of the round open tube piece. This is to keep it neat and the keep the rain out. I have had no issues with it like this since 1990 and all the people who trim them across end up with the top seal shrinking back and the end stick out like duck wings or like ears.

Here is mine.

Thanks for great pics Don.I am glad I saw them before I cut.I thought tucking in a little might not let the frame sit flat enough on the tenon and and stanchion but I will give it a try.
thanks again
Tom

It's a center seat about 8" by 8" and is secured to the top of the tunnel for the driveshaft. It must have been an aftermarket item (or home-made) because it's the only TR I've ever seen with one.

I stand corrected - the seal is held between the chrome frame and the tenon plate (not the stanchion).

Here's another view of the center seat.
