I'm not sure how many of you aware of the manufacturing of Triumph sedans in India, one of my Flickr contacts from India just posted some photos of a "Standard" Herald he owns, you can see the slight differences between the Triumph Herald...

The Ambassador and the Hindustan were known as Morris Cowley's in the UK.I believe that BMC sent the tooling to assemble Morris cars in India. You will also see the smaller Morris Oxford doing sterling service as taxis in most Indian cities.India also makes Royal Enfield motor bikes.

I would be extremely interested in knowing more about this particular car and its owner, as I also have a number of Indian contacts with interest in and ownership of Standard Heralds and related STAMPRO cars. Feel free to "PM" me here (or send e-mail to me; I think you probably still have my e-mail addresses).

I am guessing that this is a fairly early Standard Herald, possibly 1963 or so, and still based largely on CKD kits from the UK. But hard to say for sure. One thing is for sure, though: it was not originally a convertible!

And yes, that is the same "shield" badge found on Triumphs. Both Triumph and parent company Standard used that shield style of badge, red and black until about 1958, then blue and white. The version used on the Herald (as pictured) had no wording, so it could easily be used on either a Triumph or Standard (Heralds were always badged under the Standard name in India).

The ones I love are the Royal Enfield Diesel bikes. Who knows an LBC might be able to out drag on of those
