Re-chroming - looking for some guidance

After years of saying I'll never do this, I've finally decided that this spring I'm having my windshield, wing window, door latches and rear cockpit surround re-chromed. I'm trying to get some idea what I will need to budget for this project.
Has anyone recently had similar work done and if so what can I expect to pay? I'll ship wherever I need to within USA.
It must be high quality work, but not necessarily Pebble Beach show chrome.
Thanks

Randy, the guy I used is in Carson City. He did a bumper, shift lever, assorted pieces of out side chrome for $250.I'm not sure he charged tax 'cause I'm form CA. First class job. Older guy who does all the work himself. Nice character who will talk your head off. Very fast. He felt bad that it took a week. He had to re-do the copper plating equipment when we were in or he would have had it in 4 days. In CA there are enviormental issues which make the price higher. Joe The Chromer. If anyone is interested I will be happy to supply info. Don Newman turned me on to him. Don has a gold BJ8 which wins at most shows he attends.

Hey Tahoe: Thanks so much for this referral. You're right about California being a tough place to get plating done. Very few guys doing it, thus when you need something done it is insanely expensive and takes forever.

Good luck finding someone who can re-chrome the rear cockpit surround. I had more than a few platers who couldn't do it because of the size/shape. Let us know if Joe has the capacity and skill to do this piece.

Cheers,
John

It never occured to me that this could be a problem for a plater. After all, it comes from the factory chromed, so I just assumed. I'll let you know if Joe can handle the piece.

Plating the cockpit surround is no problem just had two of them done. One was done by "Vern's Chrome" here in LA and the other was done by "Christian also in La.---Fwiw-Keoke

I eventually found a place that could handle it (Buena Park Chrome) but I haven't had it done yet. I too was surprised that three places said they couldn't do it. One mentioned their tank size .. another said they didn't think they could buff it without turning it into a pretzel. Yeah .. I kept walking /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/grin.gif

Since your relatively nearby, try San Joaquin Chrome in Lodi (209) 365-9694. They have done a few of my parts and will be getting the rest when $$$ is in.

Hey thats great!. However, I was just thinking if you can't carry that piece into a shop for a replate shipping it would be a bugger!--Keoke
