HI Jaybird, I see you say you loosened the clamps.Perhaps the one at the hose end you are trying to remove has not been loosened enough.loosen it enough to slide it down the hose and repeat the screwdriver all around the neck bit once more and see if it does not come off.--Fwiw--Keoke

Try a little heat...a Shark steamer is ideal to heat the hose enough to make it more pliable and easier to remove. A rag and tea kettle will be a little messier (?) but will make the job easier too.

Why is that? You like your MGs to leak? /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/laugh.gif You seriously never use any type of gasket sealant? I've been using Hylomar and RTV for years, it's great stuff.
 
Try using a set of water pump pliers. (not a specialty tool for water pump replacement) /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Just be very careful......Work around the hose, gingerly squeezing & applying a small amount of torque. (use a shop rag to prevent scratching the hose)

I sprayed the end with WD40, I tried vise grips and the screwdrivers, I drank a couple screwdrivers, Bruce I used the hairdryer on the hose last night to make it more pliable. And Cokey, I have both clamps really loose, they spin around and are pushed away from the connecting ends.

This evening, one more try, then I'm either taking it off at the engine end or cutting it off. Is ridiculous to let a hose slow me down.

Thanks Randi. I know exactly how to do this job. It's a 'piece of cake' -- automotively speaking. I read BOTH manuals, looked at the pics, got it. Except for one stubborn 10 or 12" hose.

If it's that stubborn and cooked on to the nozzle, cut it, lose it and get another one. Good insurance, as it will probably fail on you anyway.

Hose is off, antifreeze is drained, radiator is laying on the floor of the garage. A piece of cake from here on out!!
 
What'd ya do, tie up th' "kinder" with a leash 'n harness?
 
Only have one little guy today. I wore him out playing outside this morning, fed him, got his belly full and laid him down for his nap. He's 16 months old, will take a 2 1/2 hour nap, should wake about 3:30. Have the door open so I can hear him when he does. Then I'll have to stop if I'm not finished, until he goes home at 5.

A leash and harness isn't a bad idea though. Good thing I don't have the Hildebrats. (Chuck's nephews' little 'darlings') Although I've found duct tape works best with them.

Harness 'em up, loop the "human" end of a leash around the harness, clip the snap end to the clothesline and there-ya-go. A "kinder-run"!

S'mits saw a couple gettin' outta their minivan in a store parking lot a while back, kid in harness and leash. She couldn't resist and asked (in her best Peter Sellers voice): "Does your child bite?" -- you may well guess it somehow didn't pass as humor to the young couple... heh.

...don't tell me any more about th' duct tape. It's th' innernet, y'know /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif

/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/iagree.gif A tube of good Black RTV is a valuable item in any garage....As long as it's used reponsibly(ie DO NOT use it to install an alarm system...Yes, I've seen it done /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/hammer.gif )....really though a little RTV won't hurt a thing, is there any better way to 'install' a new(leaky) valve cover seal?
 
Nope, no sealants...clean everything real good, make sure they'll mate properyl, use the correct gasket & proper torque.

If they didn't use sealant in the factory, why should we later on?
 
On my toyota, the water outlet hose must have sealant on it... It has a sortof square oring groove, but they don't make a gasket or o-ring for it... Black RTV makes an excellent seal there!
