I spend the day playin' out and you guys start talkin' about asparagus and syntax. Home grown asparagus is a thing of beauty.

Isn't there enuff room t'wixt rad and pump that this ~could~ be done with rad in situ???

EDIT: Nevermind... '77 and up: yes. '68(ish) -'77: no.

I have to install a water pump, possibly tomorrow night, but more likely Tues or Wed.

[/ QUOTE ]

I need to install one too, at least I think that is the source of the mild growl at the front of the engine.

The Plan is to lube the alt bushing first and if that doesn't fix the noise, new pump it is.

I keep one on the shelf along with hoses and a belt, just in case. Does anyone still/rebuild the cast-iron original types? The one I've got is QH and looks decent, but it's aluminum.

Have not read the Bentley yet, but it probably suggests to lube the pump via the weep hole, if so dont forget to do that.

Janel,

I thought you got a new water pump when you got all the other stuff done last year? Is it maybe under warranty where you got it? Did you get it from Moss?

[/ QUOTE ]

I'm with Paul here. You said you replaced it in December, so why did it fail? Wonder if something is amiss... When you replace it this time, be sure the pulleys are lined up.

The pump was a working, used one Tony sent me when Chuck picked up Binabox. Just the way things go. I should have gone ahead and put a new one in then and didn't. Just the way stuff happens sometimes.

I'm about to call and see if John's got one in stock, if not I'll have to order one, but I'll have the rad pulled and the old one out before the new one gets here.

John's got the pump in stock at his shop. I'm heading over there at 5 to pick it up! I'll have time to drain and pull the radiator tonight!!!

((where do I put the hydraulic jacks?))

Maybe you mean jackstands?

Two options:

1. On either side of the forward frame rails.
2. Under the spring pan/spring. (what I do)

I'm doing the same job. I'll race you to see who gets done first /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/tongue.gif

You'll need gasket sealant (Permatex RTV) and a new gasket. Make certain the pump you are going to install is correct for your B. There are 3 different model for CBBs.

RB, and I checked the part # with the Moss catalog before I called John. I have Jack stands too, but was going to use the hydralic jack thingies instead. We have gasket sealer and I thought the gasket would come with the pump. If not, I can make one.

Don't race me Scott! I've never pulled a radiator and a water pump in my life.

(man I'm SO glad I didn't get my nails done Saturday)

JB, use the hydraulic jack to get the front end high enough to place the jackstands underneath.
Never, never, get under the car with it only supported by the hydraulic jack. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/nonono.gif
Can you say "smoosh?"

Oh my. I'm a NooB here. I didn't realize we were blessed with an MG owner (fixer!) of the fairer sex. My wife hates RIDING in my MG, let alone wrenching on it.

I'm impressed /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/angel.gif. You go girl /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/cheers.gif!!

Ahh Scott, there's several of us, most that can easily put me to shame. My friend Stefanie from our car club, Doc's wife, Kim, Naomi, Randi, RG (where IS she??).

It's a frightening thing, isn't it? Women with wrenches. Only thing scarier is me with a sawzall.
/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/devilgrin.gif

I'm just learning everything. Did spend 7 hours at the shop Friday wrenching and working on the '66 we're restoring! I'd much rather have a spanner in my hand than a shopping cart, and I'd much rather be at Autozone or Harbor Freight than the mall. Definitely some sort of chromosomal defect.

Can you chat with my wife? She's a Sephora/Victoria's Secret/Saks kind of girl. Not that that's a bad thing /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/angel.gif

I've been in VS before, buying lotion for my dot. Have no clue what Sephora is and as far as Saks, ummm, not my style. But you're right, it's not a bad thing.

I can't imagine not loving to ride in a MG. Dahubby has a shirt that I had made that says "MG HUSBAND TRANLATION: on site mechanic" I intend to be able to use that shirt for a shop towel soon and replace it with one that says, "MG HUSBAND -- I'm just along for the ride."
