I'm taking a poll. What grade gas are you guys with stock TR6 engines running. I'm been using 91 myself. Thanks

I guess I don't qualify as stock...9.5:1 = 93 octane

I am cheap, I run 89 unless I am auto crossing. then I run 93.

It all depends on the compression ratio and timing advance. Every situation will be different. That said, use the lowest grade of gas you can get away with without the engine pinging. Anything more then that is throwing your money away. I would imagine that most stock TR's can function quite nicely on regular (87 octane) gas.

I run 87 Octane in a stock '74 TR 6 with no troubles an I run the timming 10 deg advanced at 600 RPM idle.

I believe you might get slightly better performance with LOWER octane. As I understand it, the purpose of octane boosters is to make fuel harder to ignite and eliminating pre-ignition. If pre-ignition is not a problem, regular gas would be prefered. Or maybe I'm just full of hooey. $0.02 /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

martx-5 and mailbox are 100% correct, you run the lowest octane rating that your car will run on without pinging.

This is one of the great advertising scams of the century as far as I am concerned. If your engine is designed to work with 89, then switching to 93 is a waste of money... but there's always that yahoo that is positive that his car runs better by paying .30/gallon extra for premium.

Now with higher octane you do have the ability to bump up the timing to give you more power. But of course this only works if your engine is actually helped by advancing the timing. I personally run 93 octane, but I'm running 10:1 compression and a cam that necessitates this.
