Here's a shot... It's a 10mm bolt.. points were worn before I got in there. But I stupidly used a 12 point socket and rounded it more. Now even a 6 point socket slips.
A "sprag" is a device that will increase its grip on that bolt head as it is turned onto it. Three little 'fingers' of hard steel rod in internal "ramps" in the tool. Works in both directions. Rats... I've one here that'd work but it won't go thru th' screen and running this mouse over it ain't doin' nuthin'.
Do you know what Sears may call it? I've been searching "sprag", and "Sprag tool", and a hundred other variations, and haven't come up with anything anywhere.
Kenny, just weld a nut on top of it. Use the mig, and go through the hole in the nut to the top of the bolt.
Or, try to drive a 6 point 3/8" socket down on the bolt head and see if you can get enough grip to turn it.
Jeff
No welder. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/rolleyes.gif I'll wait n see if Doc or anyone knows what a "Sprag" is called in Searsspeak. Then I'll go buy one! Sounds like a very useful tool!
Kenny. Try this set
It's cheap, and they work really well.
Be careful removing the cams. All the caps need to be removed evenly, all at the same time little by little, or you could possibly damage or break the camshaft.
There is a thrust bearing type ring under the big cap (the one with the stripped bolt, and the one on the rear of the other head) and if the cam goes crooked coming out it can very easily break off part of that ring.
Ok. Borrowed my dad's torque wrench and got the head torqued down. Torqued down the cam caps. Reinstalled the cam cover. I put in the coolant crossover pipe, and reinstalled the lower intake.
Hmmm... reassembly does seem to go faster even though I'm pacing myself. And it's ton's nice seeing it going back together rather than coming apart /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif
Here's todays progress (in between rain showers)...
I hope the surface rust on those timing belt pulleys won't hurt anything... it's not as "there" in person as the picture seems to suggest.
Notes to self:
Need to torque down the lower intake bolts, RTV the rear aluminum coolant sensor array before reattachment, front motor plate goes on before the cam gears. Entire front of motor is next... Need a big c-clamp to reset the tensioner to install it, fuel rails and injectors can go in now too.
