FWIW, I daisy-chained a ground wire to all the rear lamps, then ran it around with the harness to the fuel tank mounting bolt. The same ring terminal has a second wire up to the fuel tank sender.

Your car is looking super great David. I hope we can all hook up some day and have long conversation about the journey we have been on. I have never seen that bracket either. I will have to keep my eyes open at the shows. I really do not see how much good it would do, and if I would not have seen it, I would not have believed it was stock. It must have come into play around 1960, I am guessing. Plus that is a great picture of a stock looking car John!

Yes 2 gallons is what I bet I will use. I had some mixed yesterday with their computer scanner at the body shop store and it missed the mark. Now I have one quart too white and one quart too blue. Perhaps I can mix them together and get it. But anyways and Because of all the work I have done and knowledge I have gained, I will keep mixing paint in quarts, and if I am not happy at 5 or 6 quarts I will mix them together and repaint the money shots of the whole car and save the rest. It really would be nicer paint job because every panel tells a story about my learning. Moreover, I really thank Tush, The Texknucklehead, and John for showing the mistakes they made in their process; otherwise, they would be like the painting Gods around here. Furthermore, Graham that car is beautiful keep sharing stories about UK Moss I need all the help I can get.

I inherited the gas gauge anxiety from my Dad. He hated to fill up when there was more than 1/2 a tank but as soon as we had passed the gas station he started to worry if he should have filled up. I don't think we ever ran out but did go some miles on fumes. Back then gas stations were a bit further apart.

Thank you. It is turning out to be a learning journey.

Just got some more paint mixed. It seems that they use the computer scan/formula then at this paint store an assistants who has a good colour matching eye so she checks the mix and adjusts it as necessary. Looks perfect.
It will not matter as I intend to use the new mix as under layers and will keep the original for the first mix for the final painting.

Just looking at TR3 Drivers post on the steering bracket and the way the covering for the speedo and rev counter was cut out in the dash. I tryed it like that but the instruments will not fit through the hole unless you cut the covering flush with the edge, something to keep in mind when you get there.

I might not have been clear. I have the brace and every car I have seen has had it, but I do not have the little piece that is bolted one the end and screwed on the left and attaches to the dash brace. I always thought the brace looked one sided the way it fit and that piece completes it. I need one now!!!

I'm wondering if perhaps you are working on a later car, that originally had the vinyl bonded to the dash rather than just glued.

At any rate, I'm fairly certain that is the way the factory installed it on the earlier cars; and obviously my instruments fit.
 
David, I use Brad Penn 80-90 GL4 in my transmission. I buy it on line, if you do a search, it should show up. Your project looks real good.

Thank you. It is moving along much faster now as I have been home for a while.

I got the oil from TRF. Their price was as good as anywhere on the Internet and I could be sure it was the right stuff.

Randall, I got my covering material from TRF and it is thicker than the one i took off which could be the reason i had trouble with it?

Makes sense to me. Recovering the dash is one of those things I've been planning for decades, but haven't actually done yet.

I know that the fuel tank straps had a strip of felt between the straps and tank and under the tank. Any ideas on what should be used now?

I used felt. ISTR Home Depot had it as weather-stripping, but if not, MMC carries it in a wide variety of widths and thicknesses.

Next felt question.

The felt bushing at the top of the steering column. I have 2 pieces of felt. One that I got from one of the big 3 and the other that came with the car kit. One us about 1/8" thick which seems too thin and the other that is at least 1/4" thick which is too thick.
I am thinking of splitting the thick piece.

Both TRF and Moss carry the tank felt kits. Actually one of the few parts that worked lately!

Be sure to soak the steering felt in oil. I didn't soak mine enough and I get an occasional squeak.
