TR6 Mossmotors TR6 Supercharger??!?!??!

Was flipping across Moss Motors site and low and behold, buried in the Performance parts section, there is a write-up of a supercharger for Tr250/TR6 underdevelopment. Anyone here got any more info on it?

My understanding is it's still in advanced R&D but a real attempt is being made for this to come to market. I think they are flipping between differant carbs to fit the application. I also think they are using the 4th generation Eaton M62.

I would like to see them incorporate they're throttle body FI into a kit.

I'll see if I can dig up some more info & post it.

I was wondering the same. I remember when they came out with the kit for the MGB's, there was a list of the other cars they were considering for development and the TR6 was on there. I also would like to see a modern FI system made available for these cars. I like the originality of the carbs and all, but a modern "install it and forget it" FI system, with it's added performance, would be fantastic. I've heard people in my club talking about getting the stock Lucas FI system from the UK and using that, but it seems really finicky and very hard to get parts for, if you can find a complete system at all.

Not only have you mastered engine comparment painting (with the engine in) you have mastered the TR6 super charger. Now you must master a low priced kit for modern application of the FI (NOT TBI) and use the stock intake manifold with modifications. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/yesnod.gif

I have read elsewhere that it is a development based on their kit for the MGB, that makes sense to me.
I suppose the same supercharger would work well and just the inlet manifold and card needle would need development.
Simon.

Using PI or the Carb manifold? My TVR is fitted with EFI-retrofitted PI manifolds and I'm machining a carb manifold for EFI injectors for my friend's fiancee's 75 TR6. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/tongue.gif

Sorry, no pics. Don't have a digi cam and all the money goes into the TVR. The full article will be available from TVRCCNA eventually (once the car comes back from the trim shop so I can finish wiring and tune it). /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/driving.gif

BTW, what's "low priced"? I have less than $1000 in mine (I think around $6-700). /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/angel.gif

CARB manifold would be best just because a lot of them are around. The stromberg tripple manifold would be an alternative if it was drastically better in HP and torque development. What "black box" do you use? What injectors do you use? Keep going and tell the story.

Thanks Vette,

There's no way I can see to do a cheap SC/FI setup simply because the hardware adds up. If you buy a new Eaton unit it's gonna cost you about $1,300 . A megasquirt or similar unit with the necessary controls & sensors, another few hundred, if you want a more elaborate engine management system you could spend over a thousand. This does not take in to consideration fuel injectors, ignition, mapping time & lots of fabrication time & expense. I think multi-port FI, tuned & debugged , will make the car run better & improve performance, but I'm not sure by how much & I couldn't begin to guess. I can say that my current set-up, using a single SU HD8, with a UT needle , idles & runs way better than any well tunned TR I have ever come across.
Here's a link to a pretty sharp guy working on just such a project.

As far as the Eaton blower on the "b" , I'm pretty sure they are using an Eaton M45 , designed for 2.0L-3.0L motors producing around 5lbs of boost with the stock pulley. The 2.5L of the TR6/TVR requires the M62, putting out enough to supply 2.5-4.0L.

One last note-With all of the modifications I have done there is one underlying goal, RELIABILITY. I will never get stranded with a carb & points in my car unless I blow up something major (hey, it could happen ). /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

vettedog: I'm using a Mini-MS (redesign of the MegaSquirt v2.2 PCB) in my TVR and the TR6 is getting a MS v3.0 PCB (and MS2 with CANbus down the road). My injectors are 28lb injectors from a Ford 4.6L V8. Sensors are MSD pn 2210 and 2220 (IIRC). TR6 will run the same sensors, don't know injectors yet. I removed the butterflies from the PI manifolds and had a flange cut to weld onto the PI airbox to use a single 65mm Mustang throttlebody and TPS. Will be able to tell more once the car gets back from the trim shop so I can wire up the ECU and tune it.

I am looking fwd to hearing about the results of your ingenuity. It sounds exciting, particularly for owners of a 2.5L that does good to put out 110hp when any motor head reads or even experiences the "modern" engine power ratings of simularly sized motors approaching 180hp and the power is not too peaky and MPH even greater that most TR6 owners can get with good tunes. On the other hand, I do love my TR6 even with out much power because it is /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/cool.gif
