The cleaned part ready to be cut for the patch
Patch fitted. I will be welding in the bottom of the verticle link later.

Thanks for the run-down guys. Based on what you're saying and browsing the shops, 500-$600 seems to be the price point for a decent MIG - I'll keep an eye on CanTire...maybe ask Santa for a shiny MIG!
Dave - I knocked the loose valve back out and have been trying to think of some way to secure/seal it. I was thinking of putting a few dots of something like Permatex to keep it from wobbling....that's assuming gasoline wouldn't affect the adhesion.

Hi Cam,
Don't think that the permatex is a good idea. Most likely will have a problem in a gas environment.

Tush,
I'm very impressed. Seems like this thing keeps trying to knock you on your backside and you keep soldiering through. Speaks much of your character. You are doing a beautiful job but at this point I wouldn't care what it ends up looking like. I'm sure you'll be a grinning when you drive it.

Well, been a little while but wanted to get the 6 put into storage before continuing with the 3A project. So, the 6 went into storage on Saturday and today was garage cleaning/organizing day for the most part but I did manage to get to play a little bit. Thought I would start on the rear valence of the car. It is a big mess with lots of pop riveted patches/brazing/bondo and rust etc. Thought that I would start by removing the closing pieces at the bottom of the valence. Got one piece out tonight but it was getting too late to be noisy in the garage....some pics anyway.
And the two new closing pieces.
Bought some outer sills as well and did a quick test fit and they look like they are going to work out very well so I am happy about that.

I mentioned in another thread that I bought some new inner sills (to go along with the outer sills that I bought allready) and some new floor pans.
I am not unhappy with the repairs that I did, but they are not going to be as good as they could be with all brand new panels. I am only going to do this once so might as well do it right!
So tonight, out came one of the floor pans. Going to do one side at a time. Before I remove the sill, I am going to weld in some more bracing to help with refitting everything as it should be. I believe that my Williams book suggests tacking in the floor pan before removing the sill completely so I will have to look at that option. Advice as always is more than welcome by those that have BTDT. I have done a search of the archives and found a few good threads on the subject with some good pics as well.

I have to say that I am happy with the new inner sills and the stiffeners (both heritage) but the floors leave a little to be desired (marked made in the USA/not heritage). I did drop the passenger side floor in and it seems like it is going to fit ok at least.
In another thread I asked about the availability of the tubes that run through the rear valence closing piece. I ordered the distance tube as suggested but it is not the right part so it will have to go back.
Will post some pics a little later.

AFAIK the body tubes are part of the rear apron assembly, not serviced separately. Shouldn't be too hard to fabricate, though.
Oops! I was at least one of the guilty parties. My apologies, I misunderstood the question. I thought you were looking for the distance pieces, instead of the tubes that are part of the body.M_Pied_Lourd said:

No Problem Randall. I will see if I can fab something up. Will see if I can find some suitable tubing at Home Depot etc. I think that the ones that are on the car are too far gone to repair.

Hi Guys,
Bit of an update. So, I have been working on the inner sills and floors and am getting to the point where I am about to weld in the passenger side sill. Doing lots of measurements and fit checks as I don't want any surprises in the end. I am psyching myself up to actually do some welding after looking at it and checking it again and again. In the meantime, I have been doing a few smaller jobs all to keep the project moving along in some form.
I think that the next thing that I will have soda blasted will be both doors so I have begun to take them apart.
Not too bad as they seem to be in good shape overall. One of the wood blocks split into about 3 pieces so I will have to replace that. A couple of stuck fasteners to get out still.
After the doors, the wings will go to get done so I spent the afternoon today with a heat gun and a scraper taking the undercoating off.
Original paint under the stone guards.
Some surface rust to take care of but I think that it looks pretty good.
1 down and three to go!

Quick update.
Been working on getting the passenger side sill in the car and am taking my time to fit the door, outer sill and front wing before I weld things up. I have tacked the bottom of the A post temporarily.
I think that it looks not too bad although I haven't much to compare to....the door gaps were not great on this car to begin with as it had been in a few scrapes/crashes in its time I am sure.
Here are some pics. If anyone would care to comment on the gaps so far, I would welcome the feedback.
Pics are a little dark....
There is a problem with the front fender fit at the bottom where it contacts the outer sill. I am going to have to recess the area a bit better for the fender to fit properly. Right now, the outer sill is preventing the bottom of the fender from contacting the mounting points underneath on the inner sill.

Hi All,
Thought I would update this thread. Nice to get some time off over Christmas to work on the car a little bit.
Finally got the inner sills welded in after alot of test fitting of the doors and front fender. Also welded in the floors (on the topside at least) and welded in the outer sills.

Thought I would also start cleaning up the tub a little bit to do something different for a change.
Did a little stripping of the bulkhead and took out the brake/clutch housing and media blasted that.
Found more braising on the top of the front drivers side wing
Started working on the rear of the tub as well
