Making Progress

Well, I don't know why I actually own a whole house sometimes....If I am not at work, then I am mostly in the garage. I even put digital cable and a small flat screen out there to keep me company. Wish that I had more garage space and maybe a barn, then I could really be dangerous....

I always thought that I might like to do something like I am doing now as a retirement "hobby". The only problem is that I need to keep working in order to support the hobby.....its a vicious circle isn't it?

Cheers,
Tush

Yep!

The definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over and expecting different results.

We work to buy our cars. We work on our cars. We need to work more to pay for more parts to do more work on our cars. Then we buy another car. We work more to pay for another car.....and on ....and on ....and on................

Thats the point you realize, it's the journey, not the destination.

Catchy......

It's eating my brain!

Cheers,
Tush

ps hard to believe that this thread has over 10 000 views....

Just bought a rear apron off ebay....one more piece of the puzzle.

Cheers,
Tush

Hi Tush,

I`ve been where you are but not by myself. My body work is being done by a professional restorer. I just wanted to mention that relative to the "Cage Nuts"; You would be doing yourself a big favor by buying them from "Macys Garage". They are Stainless & He captures the nuts in the cages where they will "NEVER" move.

I wish I could post some pics of mine here but again; I`m tentative in de-sizing my existing pics cause I lost a few of them in the past & You just can`t go back to the "Before" stage to retake the pics; Thank Goodness!!

Lookin Good by the Way,

Russ

You really only need make a copy of any image and screw with the copy to rewtain all of your originals or upload to a sharing site and still keep tour copy.

Hi Russ,

Thanks...

One of the first things that I bought for the car were the cage nuts from Macy's. I bought them as soon as I encountered my first "seized" cage nuts while trying to unbolt the seat tracks from the car. I knew then that I was going to have to replace a whole lotta cages so I bought 30 of the 1/4 28 and some of the 5/16 24.

Here is a pic of them

AS an FYI, they are not SS but are mild steel.

I also but all of the Stainless Kits he had to offer to help me in my re-assembly.

David

Hi Guys,

Still waiting for my new rear valence so I thought that I would keep myself busy doing some of the smaller stuff. Before I could get to the smaller stuff, I had to pull apart my compressor and rebuild it as it had decided to quit on me. So with that done, I could do a little media blasting during the week.

I posted a pick of the seat tracks in another thread but also did a few more pieces..

Thought I would give the soda blaster guy a bit of a head start on the wings and used some aircraft stripper to take off the paint layers down to the primer.
Will drop them off at the blaster in the next week or so.

Nice work David - I need to send you my address, most of that stuff should fit in a medium sized box!

Beautiful stuff David! I wish I had bought a media blaster a couple years ago. Would have saved a lot of sanding and wire brushing. Are those parts powder coated or rattle can?

Hi Dan,

Rattle Can. I did the bumper brackets in a gloss black and the rest of the black items on the table in a semi gloss black from Eastwood. I did the seat tracks with silver cad from eastwood as mentioned in another thread.

Cheers,
David

Nice! Thanks for the update, and Randy it will be a while before anything is shipped since he's going to be busy on my stuff

David, don't tell us you're getting lazy now. The brake/clutch pedals come apart a little farther you know. Mine probably had a little more sand/dirt inside, but after complete dis-assembly and re-greasing, they operate much smoother.

Your updates are inspiring.

Hiya Tex,

Nope not getting lazy

If you notice, the pedals are not on the completed table. I am taking mine apart as well. The media blaster didn't remove some of the sealer that is applied to the back of the pedals so I am doing that by hand.

Oh, one more thing. My Holes are out of round so I will be welding and drilling prior to painting.

Will post some pics of the completed project.

Cheers,
David

That bugs me to no end - not really a design flaw or anything - just use. Just some blobs of MIG and then smoothed to shape Tush? What do you use to get the opening back to correct profile?

Hi Tom,

Yes, I think that I will weld a blob in there but try and not fully close it. I would like to be able to keep the center of the hole open a little bit if possible so I can use it as a pilot to drill a new hole.

I do have an extra pedal that I need to check to see if is any better...I might not have to do anything at all.

Cheers,
Tush
