My car is making me a better mechanic. I use the word mechanic loosely.
I've restored the car. I've worked on almost everything, twice I think, LOL. Time to relax and just take her out for a spin now. Oh grasshopper, you have much to learn.
I spent a considerable amount of time on research, product and install time, in regards to heat insulation. I used Dynamatt extreme, Pegasus heat shields and thermal jute insulation. I installed in on the floor, the side panels and the transmission tunnel. Did it do the trick? You bet it did. My feet do not get hot when driving. I know you don't believe me, but it's true.
Where am I going with this story? I actually have to use the heater sometimes. Again, yes it's true. I really do turn on the heater.
The rain stopped this morning here in Sunny California. But it's still cold. Not snow cold where I live, but cold. Let's take the Healey out for a spin. I put the top up, rolled up the windows, and slid the knob over to the heat side. I know you guys don't believe me, but humor me here. Ah, the drive is nice, but the cars is still cold. What was I thinking installing all the heat shield material! What I need is heat and I need it now. Turn on the heater blower. Good thinking man. Pull the knob out, no air increase? What? Pull over, pop the bonnet and wouldn't you know it, the blower is not working. What?!
When home I check the wires, all good. Seems the problem is in the heater blower motor. How do I fix that? I was going to post that question here, but decided to pull the unit out and see if I could figure it out first. No easy job just getting that thing out of the car with those air tubes. Not that I expect any project on a Healey is easy. Oh I dropped my wrench, screwdriver, nut, bolt, light bar, etc. Long story short, I figured out how to open the heater motor and fixed it. Total time.. check wires, pull heater blower, fix heater motor, put the unit back, reinstalled the air hoses and wires...5 hrs. Up side, the more you work on your Healey, the faster you become. Now I'm ready to get toasty in my Healey, just like the rest of us. Except I use my heater, imagine that.
Cheers,
Roger
