I’ve had a fair amount of experience with overdrives in my TR’s. Both Type “A” and “J” but this one in my 1970 MGB has me beat well and truly.
It was operating OK but only when the oil got hot. Strange but maybe a symptom of “O” Rings. It didn’t slip under load however.
Now I am doing a major rebuild I took off the bottom plate and Low Pressure screw plug, removed the oil pump, checked for wear, spawning, and replaced the “O” Rings. New oil Castrol 20.
Removed the solenoid checked the resistance 15 Ohm and the current draw of 800 ma
Cleaned everything and watched the University Motors Utube vids and did everything he said to do.
I have repeated this process at least ten times....... to no avail.
Running it with the electric drill, worked OK on the other overdrives I have cleaned and run but this will not engage.
If I remove the low pressure valve plug whilst running, no oil comes out and I know that cant be right.
The gallery between the pump and low pressure valve is clear.
I am going crazy right now does anyone have any suggestions.
I will be forever grateful
