Hi James

Who is doing the car for you ?

Cheers
Mark

nice shop - I've driven by more than once to drool at their projects

Nice progress. The damage repair should be invisible once the paint is on. Because I am a few months or so ahead of you in progress, PM me if you have any questions about possible mods.

More pics from this morning!

"Here are the latest pics. they are numbered in order of work completed, note we have completely primed twice and will block sand and completely reprime a third time for the sake of straightness."

There's just something about the SP 250 IMHO. Can't put my finger on it, but I think it's a really interesting and lovely car.

One of the magazines ("Octane", I think) did an article last winter about a tour/trip the author took in an SP250. Apparently it's a very nice touring car, fairly roomy interior and nice power.

Spnx, thanks so much for posting these resto photos, it provides us with a great opportunity to see a very rare and beautiful LBC come back to life.

Cheers to you and good luck with the resto.

I have a question.
Why is the body being primed and sanded with the bonnet/boot hinges in place?
I would have thought to block for smoothness one needed to go across the areas under the hinges?

Maybe it's needed to hold the lids up in place, to get the level across the joints?

gorgeous, if you need someone to deliver it when you are done.....

Hmmm. I imagine the boot and bonnet stay in place to ensure good panel lines, just while sanding.

It will be interesting when I get the progress pictures for the colour coat, to see if they are painted apart from the car.

LOL - I don't need someone to deliver it  I am seriously considering getting temporary plates so I can drive it around Toronto for a week or so though, to visit family and friends, before I bring it out west.

Thank you!

I think the car improves with age. My theory is that the car came out in 1959, when fins finally shot their bolt, and the Cadillac came out with huge, oversized fins, and that was really the end of the trend.

Think about the razor edged styling of the early and mid-1960s cars in the USA, the car's intended primary market. This car would have looked very dated.

Looking back however, the difference between 1959 and 1963, for example, isn't such a big deal.

I don't know, I suspect that's part of it, anyway.

For me, family history of this car aside, it's really the engine that makes it! The sound of it alone makes the car worth driving.

P.S. I would have preferred not to have conducted a full restoration, as I prefer a car with patina, but that was impossible in this case. The only way to gain patina is to drive it though!

Either way, you've got a beer waiting here if you want to show it off.

Let us know. There was a great article on Howe Motorworks in the Toronto Star today - your car isn't mentioned but some nice ones are - real craftsmen! I couldn't find it online though.

Now, with paint!

Eight coats of Porsche Silver, three coats of clear.

Just got the pics right now, and I'm very happy with the way it looks!
