You all are wrong. That was Hollywood Bond.

Bond of the original 1950's book Casino Royale drove a DB 2/4.

You know, I think I made a mistake. The SP250 is perhaps better suited to another gentleman of distinction - Mr. Dirk Pitt. Mr. Pitt has an extensive collection of unusual automobiles. And, as luck would have it, all these cars can be seen in a museum run by a guy named Clive.

BTW, I cannot be sure, but it seems Mr. Pitt may have managed to have recovered and restored the remains of Mr. Bond's Blower Bentley (Mr. Pitt has a knack for finding things long thought lost forever):

And my apologies for hijacking this thread! lol

I recalled the Bond story as we rebuilt a DB 2/4 Drophead a few years back. What a (lovely) old LUMP!

The cams always worried me... waaay long, and considering the metallurgy of the times it just gave me th' creeps to wind it up much after I'd done the engine.

At least the "fish mouth" cars had th' cam buried down inna block, well supported and protected.

Dirk Pitt -- had a Voisin as I recall (among other things). My father restored a rather massive Voisin several years ago for a client -- took it to Pebble Beach. The thing was outrageous!

In the meantime, I must say that I desperately want an SP250 -- it would fit nicely with the Tiger. Bloody hard to find one, though, and they seem more expensive on this side of the pond than in Britain and Europe. Perhaps I'll have to find an RHD example.

I don't get the aversion to RHD cars. I've seen it mentioned several times that RHD cars are less desireable. My Mini is RHD and I LOVE it. My Jag isn't - :frown: - but it is actually rarer because of that so -. I'd have a BUNCH of RHD cars if I had a big enough garage! I often search eBay for RHD cars. I've considered getting something like this for a daily driver:

 I guess I am strange that way! LOL

I don't have an issue with them; Mrs. Dart REFUSES to ride in the passenger seat so that eliminates them from my consideration. I would have a Daimler V8-250 (Jag MKII) as our "touring" car if I could find a LHD example. And for the same reasons (plus a few other$), we decided not to plan on taking our SP over the pond to join the DLOC celebration of 50 years since introduction.

That situation I can appreciate. Very important that one's S.O. likes the automobile too. Mine sure does. I have heard though that many buyers will look past a RHD car solely because it is RHD, S.O. issues aside. Imho, this is like looking past roses because the stems are green. Just my 2 cents....

I agree, Peter, and for you that makes them probably less costly than they would be otherwise. Our Morgan friends all have RHD cars and love them, same goes for the DLOC-NA friends with V8-250's. (I'm waiting for someone to suggest I trade the SO in for a RHD model)

Classic Minis are so small that it really doesn't matter what side your on. Could say the same thing for a Spitfire really. Big Jags are a little different. Of course it really only matters when you need to see around slower moving traffic looking for a clear passing zone. If your content to motor along behind what is in front, then it really wouldn't matter.

I wouldn't say that I have an aversion, just a mild preference since I'm used to shifting with my left hand. That said, I'd certainly buy a right-hooker if it were the right car.

I drive regularly on LHD and RHD streets (I travel alot). I really helps to have the proper car with the proper steering to help me keep it all straight!

Here's a very nicely restored SP with RHD -eBay Item number: 110374769849.
Belongs to a fellow DLOC-NA member & the car was at the Allenberry, PA MOM show last year (in case anyone was there).

OH! tell "Mrs Dart" I think she be very very smart to stay out of the passenger seat of that Dart.
