Bulletproofing your Healey

The tie-rod ends including boots are available cheap on RockAuto, so maybe that's the way to go.

PS - Just ordered these at approx $2.50 each.

When I get them, will provide dimensions on boots, which may be able to be ordered online by dimensions.

Do you happen to know what part number they carried on the Rock Auto site?
I can't find them under ball joints, tie rod ends, etc.

I also tried to order them from a Hyundai dealer, but just received a refund as they too did not have them in stock.

After measuring the boots from my new Hyundai tie rod ends as well as an old one removed from the Healey , I ordered a set from energy and will follow up with pics & specs when I receive them. All will be revealed shortly.

Thank you!

Velly crever Mr. Bond san. I was going to weld up those extra holes in my rear shroud, but now..........

I purchased my first set of side rod dust covers from Moss Motors, they lasted only 6 months before cracking. I then went across the pond to AH Spares, they lasted only 9 months before cracking. I found out that Roger Moment makes them and sells them for $20 each, I purchased a set from him and so far so good, expensive, but I do not want to take the side rods off again.....

Are you thinking protection from tailgating SUV jockeys who are text messaging while driving? I'm digging the thought as well!

Actually, I was thinking some type of laser that would vaporize them and not leave any evidence. But then, I suppose a bigger generator/alternator would be required. Amazing what devious thoughts an idle mind can create! :jester:

I hve been struck by people who change the distributor to an electronic one and the problems they have. It seem Pertronix in particular, seem to recall something about with key in partial on they burn up or something. After 35 years of a BJ8 I have found just keeping things set right and buying from Name suppliers, very little trouble over all these years. Spin on filter, torque something or other starter, Grose jets are fine. I would imagine an alternator that was a turn-key installation might make sense, but if it aint broke dont fix it and mine aint broke. For the nonexpert such as myself, doing things like messing with polarity just creates problems. We all dont have lifts, know how to weld etc is problem with such "upgrade"suggestions, for the hobbyist just get a good manual and keep it original. Jay '65, 3000

re: "... It seem Pertronix in particular, seem to recall something about with key in partial on they burn up or something."

If you have points, and leave the key in the 'run' position, you can fry your coil if the points happen to be closed. Moral of the story: Don't leave your ignition in the 'run' position if the engine isn't running. I have two AH's with Pertronix installed, and my dad has a '65 Mustang and a '55 T-Bird with Pertronix installed--don't remember if his '46 Chevy 2-ton truck has Pertronix or not--and we haven't had any problems with them, and I believe my Healeys start quicker, run smoother and idle down better with Pertronix ignition. And, when you have that many vehicles to maintain not ever having to futz with points is a real benefit. Plus, the stories of quality issues with contemporary points and condensors are legion (and documented on this forum).

I have not yet received my copy of HM but thanks guys, and I think I'll take my car for a celebratory ride later--assuming it starts!

Michael,

for us non-US folks who don't subscribe to Healey Marque, do you have a PDFs of the article.
