Austin Healey MK II Windshield Assembly

Can anyone help me with the steps to get a new gasket back in the windshield frame? I have a problem getting the gasket to seat in the frame along the bottom channel and I am afraid to force it obviously.

I have not used any sealant on the gasket, but this may be the next step to simply hold the gasket in place.

Then I am planning to soap up the gasket and compression fit it into the frame, but any helpful ideas would be appreciated.

Assuming you mean the weather seal between the bottom of the windshield and the shroud, a lot depends on where you purchased the item. If it is from the usual vendor that supplies most of us with a great catalog and many of our parts, good luck. You will need it. These weather seals have typically been slightly too large to easily fit in the channel. While it can be done, it will take lots of time and plently of 4 letter words.
A better plan would be to order the seal from Austin Healey Spares, which seems to fit much easier. You might also try British Car Specialists.

Hi as Shorn pointed out to you these gaskets from the usual suppliers do not fit correctly and your best bet is to obtain one from the recommended supply sources. Healey Surgeons can also help you here--Fwiw--Keoke

I got mine from AH Spares. The top "T" was smaller. It went right in. I sent the other one back to the well known supplier for full credit.

A couple years ago I replaced my gasket with one from M**s and it was TIGHT. With lots of patience and gobs of rubber lubricant it went in but not easily. You can be sure once it's in it will not leak. Very frustrating job and I'm not sure if it is realistically a one man job although eventually I prevailed. Bob

Same for me, I replaced one two years ago. Think it was from VB. Good thing it was a little long, I mangled up one end pulling on it. I did use vasoline to lube it up, still that was one of the hardest things to do during the whole restoration.

Hey Jersey,
Like a couple of the other guys said, get one from AH Spares in the UK.
I tried one from M... and could never get it in. The one from AH Spares
still needs some effort but at least I got it in okay. Make sure to
use some type of lubricant- soapy water works well and easy to clean up.
