Dear All,

I am looking into buying an Austin Healey MK2 and I want to find out if the car has matching numbers. On the registration certificate it has the VIN nr HBT7L17436(01) and the engine has nr 29E/RU/H3863. Can anyone help me with this? Thank you in advance. Filip Goorden

...and if they don’t match, don’t worry about it if the car looks good in all other respects. The engine numbers are on a metal strip which can go missing over the years. Replacement strips are available with no control over the numbers so you can never be 100% certain it is the original gearbox. I don’t believe matching numbers adds any value to ordinary Healeys.
