AH 3000 sitting on 5-Gallon Buckets - Austin

Hey Guys-
This Healey has been sitting right where you see it for at least the last 6-8 months. Perhaps a year or more. I've driven by it a million times always meaning to pull in... today it finally happened. It isn't mine, I do not know it's story or the owner, but there's a photo below with the business name (and number) if anyone's interested in learning more. I didn't look underneath or inside the hood (due to limited time). Looked like an old racer with a V-8 mod... otherwise pretty complete. Enjoy...

I don't think it is that high a price. For another $60,000 you could probably make it nice and sell it for $45,00 making a nice $27,000 loss.

Stock Healey drums on front wires, US rear with solid wheels...automatic....didn't even bother to get the radiator in level.
Take two zeroes off and it will sell...eventually.
From the ring in the bonnet, looks like a stack fire. Wonder what else burned under it?

The solid US rear wheels could be the Buick,(memory check), often used to replace the rear wire wheels when the hubs got stripped. Several years ago it was a common practice, and a cheap one at that, to use the solid wheels because of the cost and location of new hubs and wire wheels. The parts situation was a lot different back then compared to today.

Oh, I remember the parts situation. I remember "making do". I also think the stock diff in no way would hold up to a 327 in a hurry....hence the rear end swap. However, using stock front brakes with a 327 is not something one would want to have when you really needed them, one would think.

Assuming it was a rust bucket, I'd be a buyer at $3k and when I towed it home my wife would say "what were you thinking?"

The rollbar is a bit overkill too; for its weight class, the SCCA GCR dictates 1-1/2" OD X .120" wall thickness. Must've used left over tubing from the last 4X4 offroad racer they built a cage for...

Agree; price is way out of line for condition (or about 10-15 years too soon__think about it...).

I think that 512 area code is central Texas. I lived in Austin from 25-33 years ago. There were a few V8 Healeys around town. But non like this. I remember a guy in Austin back in 1979 on the south side of town that wanted to sell his nice looking (Healey blue) MkI for $2500 that just had a 289 Ford V8 conversion. There was also a darked blue Healey around 24th just west of campus with a V8 that was wrecked pretty hard and sat next to a dumpy apt. complex for years.
This car isn't worth crap. What is with the frame? I see other frame parts next to the car as well. I wonder if these are extra or from this car.

Hello a happy new @ all,

if I live in a sun state like texas or california, I would never think one second about a projekt like this ...
I dont`know how much rust free healeys in dry state countrys really available, but the best deal is a car in best body conditions.(mechanic repair is easy).
Clearly those cars are more expensive but they make more sense for all who are not in retirement.

Michel- who does not have enough time (job/family)to repair a california car...!
