3000 Rear Seats

I'm speaking with the builder and upholsterer for a BT7. Re: Rear seats.

They are suggesting a clean look by doing away with the screws for the rear seat pans and brazing studs instead.

Collective thoughts?

Thanks,

John

I also went with the cleaner look for the rear seat bottoms and JB welded/glued SS studs to the rear seat pan. They bolt in from below. Not a problem for BJ7/8s, but this modification may hamper battery access on the older models.

Were there fit issues on the outboard side of the pans where it butts into the wheel arches?

Much thanks.

No. The pans, original on my BJ 7, fit flush with carpet and insulating foam seal around the opening.

If you can remove the seat from the top, it's much easier to access the fuel pump, and fuel filter if you have one.

I‘m not an absolute purist so I welded the studs to the pans and went with the cleaner look. I much prefer it to the original look. The pans are original to the car so I had no issues with the install. Here are two photos that partially show the rear seats.
