A/F Ratio Revisited.

All that talk about those nice O2 kits and made me finally decide to take the plunge.
A couple of questions for the knowing.
I have 2 TR's a 7V8 and a 6 that will someday run. My 8 has a 1 wire sensor that is hooked up to the OBD1 puter.I realize the good kits use a multi wire sensor. can the computer on the car use the multi wire one and can I pigtail off of the sensor to hook in the computer in the kit or what ever it uses ?
I want to be able to use it on both cars.

Gees I hope the question can be deciphered!

Don,

I think the answer is "maybe" IF you buy a kit that uses a narrow band sensor.

However, from what I've read and my experiences with a narrow band sensor; I wouldn't waste my money on one. And the wide band sensor is completely different, your car's computer won't have a clue what to do with it (which as I understand it will rapidly ruin the sensor).

On the multi-wire narrow band sensor, two of the wires will be for a heater element, which you can safely leave disconnected. The heater just helps ensure that the sensor reaches operating temperature even if it's a long way from the engine (where the exhaust gases might not get it hot enough to work). Another wire may be for the other side of the sensor element, which your "one wire" computer expects to be grounded.

However, the good news is that some of the wide-band kits also offer an output to emulate a narrow band sensor. That might solve your problem, though of course it means the kit would have to be on the '8 when you drive it.
