948 engine

Just for fun.....

Here's the 948 that was in the ~A-35~ . Dusty, but all there.

35 horsepower! (hence the name).

Teeny, tiny British Zenith carb, road draft tube, mech. fuel pump, smooth-case trans, mechanical clutch linkage, hand-crank hub on front pully, etc.

It turns nicely and apparently ran nice 8 years ago when the car was stored.
It will get replaced by a "cooking" 1275 and rib-case trans from a '73 Spridget.
But I think I have a home for this 948 eventually.

Cool... hand crank!

You GOTTA adapt that hand crank pulley for the hot 1275. That would be too, too cool!

Thanks for the kind offer but we actually already have two homes.

Not including the Miata, which I sometimes feel that I *live* in too!

Oh, wait!....you mean a home for the <span style="font-style: italic">engine </span>? :jester:

John-Peter,

Very funny!

But actually, you're not that far off.

I built a rolling chassis a few years ago with cast-off Sprite parts and some steel tube.

At some point, I'd like to finish it in the style of the Austin Seven TT Specials that were popular in the 1930's.
Many look sort of ~Like This~ A7 racer.

The 948 would be a good fit for it. ~THIS~ is what I have so far. Need to retire to finish it.

Morris:
The 948 pully is cool but doesn't have a vibration damper...not good if you're racing.
Plus, I'm getting older  (<span style="font-style: italic">I am *so* over hand cranking engines </span>) :yesnod:

sweet - there was someone in the area here trying to get rid of an Austin seven frame/ engine here last summer - still wish I had had the time/ place/ money/ skill/ to do it up like that.

But imagine the weight savings without that big clunky starter and ring gear. Get one of your students to crank it for you. Tell 'em it's extra credit.
