20,000 RPM Wire brush

So my new favorite tools are my air die grinders (straight and angled). I have the standard assortment of abrasive pads and stones. What I would really like is a wire wheel/brush that can handle 20k rpm.

I have a few that I use in my drills, but none of them are rated above 4500 rpm.

Any ideas?

Thanks,

David

To get that kind of speed rating, you're probably going to have to go for a smaller diameter end brush. For example, here are some 1" brushes that are rated to 22,000 rpm:
https://www.mcmaster.com/#catalog/118/2697

For limited use, I wear lots of protection and use the throttle to keep the brush speed down, so I can "get away" with a 13,000 rpm cup brush.

For more extensive work though, I prefer a cheap electric angle grinder with a threaded cup brush. Much more torque/power available, a thinner cord, and I don't ever have to wait for the compressor to catch up. Eg this

Thanks, that got me pointed in the right direction. After seeing those on McMaster, I found these on amazon.com

DEWALT DW49004 3/4-Inch by 1-1/8-Inch High Performance Carbon Knot Wire End Brush, 0.014-Inch Wire
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B005IW2N8M/ref=oh_o00_s00_i00_details

DEWALT DW4903 3-Inch Crimped Flat Faced End Wire Brush

I had to google the part numbers on other web sites to confirm that they are both rated at 20,000 rpm. I was hoping to find something at HomeDepot or Lowes, but no such luck.

And yes, A 4.5" angle grinder is on my wish list too.

Thanks,

David

I love my die grinders, but I tend to stick with the 3M rol-loc pads. I use the brown scotch-brite looking ones ones the most, green ones are for finer stuff. Also the plastic fingered discs work like a wire wheel, and are made for the higher RPMS. they also make sandpaper discs for the same pads system. I never liked using a wire wheel or cup on my 90 deg die grinder, it's just to awkward and jumpy. It's lots better on the straight one.
