Originally sold to David Shale it was fitted with an Aston-Martin Gearbox and painted British Racing Green soon after being delivered in the OEW over Lobelia livery. It spent its racing career as a club racer until entering into the Arthur Carter collection for 40 years. Link to the auction: https://www.bonhams.com/auctions/21906/lot/331/

I feel lucky to have seen a real one at Hilton Head a couple of years ago! Still on the hunt for a BN1 or 2 that I can pretend is a 100M!

Cheers,
Irene

I'm intrigued by the fact that it came with an Aston Martin transmission. I can't seem to find any information as to why that was. I know that they didn't put the overdrive in the "S" but I've never heard of AH delivering any other car with the AM tranny.

From Geoff Healey's "The Specials" p.129

"We had put considerable development time into arriving at a suitable gearbox, starting with the special wide-ratio taxi gearboxes. For the next generation of cars we used David Brown four-speed boxes as used by Aston-Martin. David Brown are amongst Europe's best gear manufacturers and these boxes were strong and good shift qualities. However, it was almost impossible to prevent oil loss through the front gearbox seal, which was not very nice for the clutch."

Wow - and for just a "regular" 100S versus the LeMans accident Healey ! Think I need to go out there and start a new search for the 100S Healey's that are not accounted for !!!!

Thank you, Rick! I figured if anyone would know it would be someone from this forum. Those must have been amazing to drive (race) with those gearboxes...at least as long as that front seal upheld.

Hi bighealeysource,
Don't forget that there is more to the NOJ 393 story besides the '55 Le Mans. That car was also the 100 that finished 14th in the '53 race and had several other significant competition outings as a 'works' entry.
Good luck with the search!
