Looking for a TVR - Some advice needed

Hello,

I'm a new member here, but a life long fan of LBCs. Being that I'm still in high school, I have a lot more time than money; still, I'd like to finally break into the hobby.

Ideally, what I'm looking to find is an early M-series in need of restoration, but, to be honest, when it comes to TVRs I'm not really going to be all that picky. Trouble is, all I can seem to find are cars that have already had the time and money put into them and as a result carry prices that are far too rich for my blood.

If any of you know where to look for such a car, please point me in the right direction.

To make the decision to purchase easier for me, I also have a question for those of you with hands on experience with these cars. Is the body work underneith the vinyl on the cars fitted with it any different from those without it - can the vinyl be removed if I decide that it upsets the aesthetic of the car?

Cheers,
Bryan

Bryan,
First of all, welcome to the forum and glad you are looking to acquire a TVR, whatever model it may be.
As others will advise you, you might want to join the TVRCC North America, as it hooks you in to a great network of owners and enthusiasts who can provide you with lots of worthwhile information.
Secondly, when looking for a TVR (or any collector car), a cardinal rule of thumb is to "buy the best car you can afford". For example, you mentioned so many of them had "had the time and money put into them and as a result carry prices that are far too rich for my blood"...but as many people have found out, by the time they buy an "affordable" model, and then bring it up to standard to their tastes, they often have a lot more in it that it would take to buy one of those that has already been done. I speak from experience.
With TVRCCNA membership comes a quarterly magazine which includes a TVR Trader section of cars for sale each issue. Also, the TVRCCNA website at
www.tvrccna.org has some cars for sale as well.
Parts are also readily available through Classic Motor Works (www.cmw-tvr.com) so I hope you find something that strikes your fancy and we welcome you to the fold.

Came across this, it may be in your range? Interesting that it is not listed as TVR, just "Other Make". Sometimes a deal can be had in a case like this as no one usually knows something like this is here.

https://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Cars-Truc...p3756.m14.l1318

It's right hand drive. Not exactly a good feature for driving in this country.

My Mini is RHD. I love it. I really find no problems except for drive throughs!

Thank you for all of the replies.

Marshall,
I'll look into joining the club, and thank you for the advice.

Jim,
I've sent you an email. Is the car you are interested in selling the same one that is pictured at the bottom of you posts?

Bryan,
We'll look forward to your joining the club. As for why TVRs are listed as "Other Makes" on eBay, it's because they don't have a specific "TVR" listing under the car makes.

Hello,
I'm in Columbus, Ohio and talked to a fellow a year ago who has two TVR 2500 and wants to sellone. I looked at pics and it seems like a likely project type car. Price then was $3,500. Let me know if you want and I will try to get his name, info.

Mike,

If it's isn't too much trouble for you I'd appreciate whatever information you could provide for me.

Deathtrap,

If I can find one for sale in Maryland, I'll happily give you call. It's always nice to have a professional's opinion on cars like this.

Thanks,
Bryan

Marshall, I have TVR saved in my "favorite searches" on My EBay. Try fiddling around with the features, TVR is in there.
