Fuel tanks, besides the rubber strips along each side of the tank between it and the body about 3" X 11" are there rubber washers between the tank and the body for the studs that hold in to the body?

Darn if I remember.

Should be two square shaped rubber washers (part # 2A2070) as well as the strips (part # 2A2071).

Funny, I just removed my gas tank tonight, and it had one of those squares that you are referring to. I guess there was another at some time.

Then the strips have two holes and go on the end and the small squar ones go in the middle holes??

So the strips must be about an inch or so wide then?? Think I got it.

Just what do these rubber strips and squares do?
I make my own out of old inner tubes when I restore a car.
But they are not thick enough to do anything. Certainly not insulation buffers or shock mounts for the tank.
I also use 30 lb felt (tarpaper) for the pedal box gaskets and a few others. Like the innertube rubbers, if your gonna do it right, use what they did originally /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif
Like Geoff Healey said, "if we found something useful on the floor, we would put it in the bin and give it a part number"

Yooo Frank, I use roofing felt on the peddle boxes and old inter tube, truck type, on the tank as well. In fact the truck tube from the last Bugeye is laying at my feet and is going to be used again and that was over 30 years ago.

Water standoffs?

The gas tank flange is relatively thin, and there are few fasteners. My guess is that they help prevent metal/metal grinding that would otherwise occur.
