While you are down there make sure the front engine plate is not warped or bowed.
In my TR the DPO did not install the front main bearing cap correctly and the front face of the cap was protruding past the front of the engine block. This bowed the front plate enough to cause a leak that seemed to be from the front sealing block.
For gasket sealant I use Permatex Aviation-Form-A-Gasket No.3
Yes the sump attach bolts are 5/16" X 18.
