Why you never throw anything away

So I've been frustrated lately trying to get my exhaust system in shape. The one I had proved to be not what I was looking for, so I was trying to figure out how I could get the car to a muffler shop, as it doesn't run and I don't have a big enough trailer.

Then Grantura_MKI (fellow BCF member and all around good guy) suggested some ways I could make a template to take to the shop. It was at this point that I remember that I had kept the old 948 exhaust pipe -- just in case. So I dug it out, and after a minute with a hack saw had it ready to be used as a template for the new system. Helps that it's so much smaller than the new header, so it slipped inside the header outlet.

So I popped down to the local muffler shop and gave them the old pipe, and the new one should be ready this afternoon. My new muffler has shipped as well, so we're getting closer.

This is exactly why I had kept the old pipe around, I had just forgotten.

I do a lot of bicycle restoration, and my cardinal rule is NEVER discard the old parts until the project is 100.0% finished. Ya just never know...!

Just got back from the shop and the new pipe fits just fine, and only $45. A deal. Now I can move on to the next project.

I decided to go with a Harley muffler. Got one off eBay (no dealer near here) for a reasonable cost. Should be in later this week.

Odd reading this today. I have been feeling my age this week with some health issues AND had told someone by PM to NOT throw out the old parts they were working on. As mentioned above, you never know when you'll need that old bit for something. Of course my garage, attic, and crawl space are feeling the strain.

It's all well and good keeping all the old bits...
Remembering that you have them or where they are when you need them is the real trick!

And on that note...

...a friend, whose birthday was the other day, said he'd reached the age where he can hide his own Easter eggs.

I can relate!
