What is your gas mileage?

Hey gang. Im just curious as to what some of you experience with your gas mileage. I have to stay on top of things when it comes to miles per gallon due to my fuel gauge not working at the moment. I need to drop the tank and get in there to see whats going on with the sending unit. Anyway, with my Weber Conversion Im getting around 37 miles per gallon. I was wondering where some of you are at.

I've only fueled up twice since I bought mine BE.
First fill got me 43.3 mpg. As I got used to it
and felt free to plant the right foot I got 42mpg.
This just doesn't seem right but each time I filled to the top of the filler neck and rocked her to get as much in as possible.
Especially on the second fill up as the first numbers shocked me.
Then it dawned on me! The speedo is off a good 10mph at highway speeds. So now I have no idea. Next up is run a predetermined route and test then. GPS mileage will not help as that will be
"as the crow flies" data.

I'm about 32 mpg on the interstate at 75 mph. Around town about 25 mpg. This is a modified engine and a 5 speed with 3.9 gearing.

Ah, I plan my stops by how much my butt can absorb - no more than 2 hours at most...though I do watch gas guage.

32 mpg, 1098 Weber 32/36, sedate cruising. Not the best tune on it yet though.
I'm planning on putting HS2s back on it later this spring.

It looks like my engine is doing pretty good with my mileage. I should mention I read the 37 miles per gallon today and most of it was on the highway doing 60 - 65 mph. My engine is running pretty sound right now after all the changes. The Weber conversion really made life better. Im not sure if mine being the 1500 motor makes any difference?

I gather the Weber beats the ZS carb your 1500 had but the HS2 twins are supposedly better than a Weber. I guess, I have high hopes for mine. My Weber is not dialed in very well and I'd bet it needs rejetting and that's a pain to nail down.

Around town I get 30MPG......on the highway high 30's. I usually average 33-34 MPG with mixed driving. I've gotten as high as 45MPG though......that was cruising between 50-60MPH on a 2-lane state highway last year in Utah.

It's a little apples to oranges though.....I don't have a stock engine. I have a Datsun 1500 with a 5-speed and Spridget 3.9 rear end.

Mid 30's, but I cruise pretty sedately too. Rarely exceed 3800 RPM.

But,,,, when it comes right down to it... I agree with Tony. It's a sports car.. I really could care less if it gets 25 or 35.

I'm not shy on the freeway, and I get about 32 with all freeway driving.
Around town, about 25.
Also a Datsun 1500 but with a 4 speed, my 5 speed is in BillM's garage awaiting warmer weather. ( it's snowing outside right now...)

You are absolutely correct.

My gas gauge doesn't work and hasn't for as long as I've owned the car, I kinda have to keep track (and an extra gallon in the trunk).... But when gas was $4 a gallon I was sure happy my love of cars brought me to Spridgets instead of 500 hp hot rods.

It IS all about the driving, after all.

Last year I had the same problem with the fuel gauge, and after receiving advice from this very forum, I added a wire connecting the tank to the chassis, so I didn't have to rely on the dodgy contact via the mounting bolts. Worked a charm.

And I agree with Tony. It's a sports car!! :jester:
