Curious to know what owners of bj8's are getting for gas mileage. I live in NorCal and use Chevron Supreme, 91 or 92 octane I think.

I average about 17 mpg.
Roger

When will I remember to proof red.
My bad...
And so does the Healey.

That's about as good as it gets. I might've gotten 19 mpg__once__downhill.

You weren't under the impression that these were economy cars, were you?

20 MPG 1967 BJ8 stock ... mostly highway driving,
300 MPQ (miles per quart of oil) no matter how I drive,
1/2 QLPM (quarts leaked per month) just sitting there!

15-19 mpg depending upon freeway mileage.

Around town, I don't really check, on the highway I get low to mid twenties per gallon. I use Sunoco 93 octane. Stock '66 BJ8.

As an aside, on the highway, the speedo says I'm going about 70 mph. (just nudging the yellow on the tach, although the tach reading seems to change day by day) BUT, I'm being passed regularly and my handheld GPS puts the speed in the mid 60's mph.

I get about 12miles per US gallon. I think this is typical with triple webers interested to know any others experience.

100-6 around 20 mpg usually, using whatever gas we can find if we're out in the country driving.

Before I adjusted my carbs , I was only getting about 10 MPG.
Now that I have them adjusted about right, I seem to be getting around 20 MPG. I have started a log and after a few more fill ups, I will recalculate and then post my results. I have been using Shell V power 93 octane.

edk, i had similar results in my bj7 after rebuilding and tuning my carbs, went from about 10-12 m.p.g. to about 17-18 m.p.g. id also recalibrated my fuel guage while i was at it and got it as dead on as one can get, no more half full reading=dead empty.

Who's counting? Either you drive your Healey or take the bus!

20miles/gallon (US), given: no wind, sunshine in the rear, a smiling wife (rare) and the prospect of some alcoholic refreshment at the end of the drive. Ideal conditions for good gas mileage, or?

Mid 60’s at over 5000 RPM? What gear are you in? That seems really slow.

There's more than forward and reverse??? /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/laugh.gif

Keoke's right, the tach works ok at idle, but as soon as you give it any gas, it goes way high, I've got to get the tach overhauled...

On my first car, a 100/6 that had been rebuilt and bored out to 3000 I was getting 13 around town and 23 on a run and little or no oil loss. On my BJ7 I have never been on a run long enough to check it but I do know that it gets through oil like there is no tomorrow, burns some and leaks the rest

Good day. Interesting you should mention gas mileage. Most Healey driver's don't really care. With a stock AH BN7 and with a rebuilt motor I get between 22/23 mpg on the highway. Less of course around town. I do believe the best money I invested in the car was having the carbs rebuilt professionally and a British Car Specialist valve train added. I average about 70 mph and the tach reading about 2800 in OD of course.

It's not so much caring about how many mpg I get, but more about if my car is running correct, tuned properly. I figured it would be wise to compare with other BJ8's to see if I'm where I should be.
Cheers,Roger
