howdy howdy,
my latest fantasy is a tear-egg drop trailer for my healey.
my main concern is to create visual continuity between the two.
i.e. under tow trailer must not exceed healey roof height,i'm thinkin of a deep drop axel, with either air suspension,or mechanical scissor lift for at rest access to cabin. am i crazy,
will the drive line handle it????

And in the past literature there have been designs for the trailer hitch

We have a fellow in our local club who made a trailer out of the rear half of a second Healey and painted it to match his car. It definitely creates a visual continuity.

59er,

Are you looking to a travel trailer that is big enough to be inside or a trailer to carry camping equipment and/or luggage? If the later is what you are looking for, I would suggest you look at motor cycle trailers. They are light and extremely maneuverable, will be lower than your Healey’s profile, and will provide a substantial amount of additional storage for travel. I am considering one of these for my Healey and anticipate little if any additional stress on my car. If a bike can haul it ….

Hope this helps,
Ray (64BJ8P1)

These cars are pretty low to the ground, I would imagine that some thought would need to go into the extra weight that would need to be supported off the end of the car.

Trailers can be loaded so that there is positive or negative weight on the hitch on the tow vehicle.

For best sway control, the positive weight on the hitch of the tow vehicle should be between 10% & 15% of the total trailer weight.

Should the trailer tongue weight be in excess of 15% of the trailer weight, weight distribution hitches are available. A weight distribution hitch will transfer most of the trailer tongue weight to the full chassis (between the axles) of the towing vehicle.

I use an equalizing hitch on my Healey trailer.

I saw this one at Conclave 2011. One of the better looking ones I've seen. Sorry the "table top" was cut off.

yo 68er,
of course i've chosen the least practical route, and am intent upon a sleeper.
the more i look around, think i'll have to create my own profile
perhaps on a modified production cabin?????

I'd recommend either a nice tent or an upgraded clutch.

Here's one my dad built and drug around the country, first with the 100 shown, then with a 100/6 in the late 50's. Probably not big enough to sleep in. Top opened like a clam shell from the front.

I've been looking for pictures of the one Norman Nock pulled around. It had a pull out kitchen and had room for several to sleep (ask Dave). I believe he sold it a year he passed. Check in national Healey magazines as I think there was an article a couple of years ago. Or I'm sure Dave would have one at British Car Specialist. He could also give you the details on setting up a trailer hitch on a Healey.
