I am replacing my TR6 Alternator with a rebuilt. The rebuilt came without the pulley and fan attached so I took off the pulley and fan from the old alternator and wanted to use it. Both the pulley and fan have a small notch inside their cylinders to ensure that they fit over the alternator shaft. When I install the fan to the new alternator it slides all the way down the shaft past the notched area and can spin freely on the shaft when it is pressed against the alternator housing. When I put the pulley on the alternator shaft it stays fixed and rotates with the shaft. When all these parts are tightened down onto the alternator shaft, the fan can actually turn independently of the pully. Is this correct? Or do I have a problems of some type? Also, does anyone know if the main mounting bolt on the alternator has a spacer of any kind that is independent of the alternator housing? Thanks for helping out!
